I saw something like that once. Except it was a stream of Bloodravens instead of butterflies. And it was in Carnage Rift instead of in some plain near some shrubs.

Shadow puppets are... sort of there. More along the lines of animating shadows into living beings. Also includes stuff like manipulating objects by manipulating their shadows, channeling energy through darkness, instantaneous travel between points on a shadow, using shadows to conceal objects or people from sight, etc.
It's brutal because your body is full of empty cavities. With no lighting. Thus darkness. Which means a shadowmage empowered with primal can use that to cast spells inside you, bypassing things like physical armor. Could set your insides on fire if they use primal-empowered shadow magic as a channel for fire magic, for example.
