Hey, I'm not trying to be a troll, I just want to ask a question.
So, what exactly made so many people become "Bronies" and what is that show even about? I mean, you could've chosen a better show to idolize, you know what I mean? But I just don't get it. Can someone explain to me what pulled so many people into this fad?
Yeah, I inadvertently saw that when it premiered. My TV was still on CN from watching Adventure Time, and it happened to be in the transition to that sketch... I actually didn't think it was that bad. The cake bit was sort of a cool shout-out.
But giving Rainbow the same voice as Cubert Farnsworth was a bit of a strange idea. She sounded utterly annoying. But hey, not everyone can be an awesome voice actor like Ashleigh Ball.
By the way, just for reference, which OoT sages are which, again? I remember Saria and Darunia (and they're both rather fitting), but all the others escape me. I think Ruto was the Zora (which is also fitting), but I'm not sure. Help?

Idolize?
Fad?
Certainly we don't idolize the show, we're big fans and that's that, I mean, it's not like it controls our lives.
Wouldn't call this a fad, really, most of the show's been pretty good, and with a massive as a fan base us bronies are, it will (hopefully) be able to supply that fandom, it's not some short-lived thing like Webkinz, if anyone remembers those things.
Anyways, onto your question.
Why did I become a brony? Well, I'm sure many of you remember the insulting post I made about two months ago (Does the thread-name "The Brony Agenda", ring a bell (EDIT: As reluctant as I am to do so, you can check it out here: http://www.minecraft...e-brony-agenda/)?), and, once that got locked, I asked a similar question on this thread.
Expecting some kind of bombardment, I actually received a truthful, basic response that didn't cause a flame war. Actually, several, I apologized for acting like a jackass, but then...I...well...looked into the show more, after watching the two-part pilot, and a few other episodes, I realized "Hell, this thing is pretty good!", believe it or not, this all went down in about a week.
Next thing you know, I'm a fanfiction-writing brony. While most are not as open to the subject, it really isn't as "bad", or as plethora-upon-plethora of people say it's "gay", as one might think.
I mean, it's chock full of references, from The Big Lebowski, to Indiana Jones, I mean, hay, they even made a booze joke in an episode. Showing that it's not all tea parties and other girly stuff. And, if you looked into it yourself, you might see the same thing.
Who knows, one day you may become a brony yourself !
Saria is the childhood friend. (AppleJack)
Daurina is the goron who's all depressed until you play Saria's song. (Pinkie)
Ruto is the Zora looking for the jewelry inside the big whale.(Rarity)
Rauru is the first stage you meet, big, wise, bearded. (Twilight)
Impa is the child-minder of young Zelda, she teaches you Zelda's Lullaby. (FlutterShy)
Nabooru is the woman in the desert, I think she's the leader of an all-female group. (RainbowDash)
I think they suit their roles. I'm open to suggestion.

First, what the show is about. It's not a very simple answer, but I'll try my best. It's general nonsense between a group of 6 friends and a baby dragon than hangs out with them on occasion. It's got a "slice-of-life" theme, for the most part--but their land is aptly described as "magical," being filled with mysticism and various mythological creatures. These six friends--headed by Twilight Sparkle, the most trusted student of their Sun Goddess, Princess Celestia--start out their adventures by becoming the wielders of powerful artifacts called the Elements of Harmony.
As for why we like it--first, see above. There's also surprisingly good music, occasionally amazing humor, and just general likability. Basically, it's much better than most of the crap that passes for children's television these days.
And when you say that we could have chosen a better show, you're right. There are several programs, among other things, that I probably enjoy more than MLP--in themselves. But the general feeling that watching a show about ponies isn't "socially acceptable" for an adult male has formed a bit of a herd mentality among us, drawing us close into a tight-knit and incredibly creative community, which is sort of a breath of fresh air among what the internet has become these days. One comes for the show, but stays for the herd.
Now, if you really want to know what's so great about it, I suggest you . You have nothing to lose but 22 minutes of your life (even less if you skip the theme song, which I recommend).

I was confused a lot before I started to like the show. The concept seemed extremely feminine, and I was a bit surprised to find out that this has become an internet fad with people calling themselves 'bronies'. I joined back in July of 2011.
The show may not be the greatest show in the world; but the writers, artists, animators that make the show are fantastic at their work. To add to that, the show has some talented artists and musicians that create fan pieces for the show. People have made music (and music videos), art, and even a blog with ponies and only ponies with over 150 million hits (http://www.equestriadaily.com/).
Oh I see you're looking through etsy, which is a great site for about all custom merchandise, if you are still searching for vehicle decals this guy happens to make them.
Ah, THAT's what I'm looking for, thanks!
Pretty cheap too.
Now I plan on sticking one on the "flank" of this:
Which one would you guys recommend? Dom says the color's wrong for Twilight but I do like Luna anyways...
Suggestions?

Just listened to this for the first time. Now, of course, I'm listening through again. The way Screwball's voice is done is enchanting and chilling. And I haven't heard a piece of music so perfectly capture a theme like this since "Slipping" from Dr. Horrible. I love it, and the fact that the music is loosely based on Phantom of the Opera makes it all the more amazing.
Does anyone want a picture of an oddly proportioned Lyra sitting on Twilight's head? You know you do.

I hope I didn't miss my shot at this.
The show is about the adventures of six friends. The Nerdy Girl, the Fashion Girl, the Country Girl, the Party Girl, the Shy Girl and the Athletic Jock Girl. Sometimes they hang out with other people ponies from around town, or the story shifts to some of the girls' younger siblings, but for the most part, it's about the adventures these friends have.
Of course, this show's status as a fad/trend/meme has attracted a lot of people, and many of them don't actually care about it beyond being part of a group, but many more actually find relatable, likeable characters and stories.
Then there's the fan-generated content: artwork, ranging from fun cartoons to epic fantasy scenes. Fanfictions of every imaginable genre and category. All sorts of music. A lot of creative people find inspiration in this show and the surrounding community.
Now, I'm not trying to be a troll or anything either, and since you seem relatively indifferent but curious:
If this show wasn't about ponies, but rather just a show like what I described with humans, would you or anyone else give our interest in the show a second thought?
(If I had any of the good humanization pics on hand, I would post them, perhaps someone else has them on hand?)
I like it when people who are wondering just what the hell bronies are all about post. It gives us a chance to remind ourselves and each other what we like about the show, what got us here and kept us here.
Ah, THAT's what I'm looking for, thanks!

I didn't quite get all this at first, and I always thought that "Bronies" were going to be the ragey-trolley type, but with several extended responses and a warm welcome, I think I might get into it. Hahaha, I was surprised when you guys gave a good few reasons why everything went down like it did.

You'll give the show a try? See you again in three days, newcomer.
Shall we take bets on how far down the rabbit hole he goes?
I knew a guy that went all the way a few weeks after he became a brony... He was the one that made me initially aware of EQD. And then I half-followed.
So on a different note, I'm tempted to make a Twilight Sparkle dedicated PMV to U2's Sweetest Thing. Yes? No? And a PMV for Running to Stand Still, same band... but that might be more "general".

He seems too sane to go too far too fast. I bet he'll watch the series all the way through before getting into much fanart, possibly before even starting to post on the thread. But he will definitely return to the thread and stay a while.
