I need to post this here since this is the only topic regarding the fanbase.
Here goes
I use to be a brony but what bothers me is this. The fanbase tends to shove it at peoples faces constantly, they actually masturbate to the porn work of the show, promote homosexuality with fanfics and pics, and to top that, act elitist towards mellow people and haters. so you can call me a hater. I rarely watch the show now due to the fact that its getting repulsive which the crap starting infesting Everywhere in the net. TF2, Minecraft, KSP, you name it. and here is a pure example on why I dont like them
I got a little nice message from a rabid brony who told me this.....
Is this what you guys call a brony? sounds like a person who hasnt taught manners if I say so myself.
I want an honest opinion from others. and no Im not breaking the rules. I have a right to know Why people act like that the show is sooo cool to them. I think its just mind control IMHO.
If any mod has an issue with this post. PM me before you delete because I do not want my mouth wiped off for saying this
It's not because we are bronies that we are perfect. We're still humans like everyone else. Yes there will be trolls and people that force-feed their opinion on everyone, even in our fandom.
they actually masturbate to the porn work of the show, promote homosexuality with fanfics and pics
"Ewh! They talk about sex! How gross! How dare they bring up taboo topics in their daily talks!"
That it disturbs you it up to yourself. You only can decide what...disgusts you or not but please don't make it look as if being sexually different was something wrong. There's nothing wrong in having different tastes. Those who usually masturbates to R34 or more do not brag about it everywhere. So what that they have a quirk for colorful ponies and jack off to it? What does that changes in your life? "Ewwwh they masturbate and talk about it!" I mean come on. Try to convince me you never did. If pictures of colorful and naughty ponies help them enjoy the moment then by all means, have fun. It's only a matter of personal tastes for personal activities. You could be speaking to one right now and never know. What impact my personal taste would have on you? It depend how much importance you give to them, I guess.
sounds like a person who hasnt taught manners if I say so myself.
Do you think being a brony automatically teaches everyone good manners and respect? Is it supposed to be different because of the nature of the show? I doubt it. People simply tend to have that perfect image of bronies from the start because of the nature of the show and its morals....
regarding the subject at hand, I'm just gonna leave this here.
Fandom is sometimes caricatured as religious faith, as the interest of fans sometimes grows to dominate their lifestyle,[10] and fans are often very obstinate in professing (and refusing to change) their beliefs about their fandom. However, society at large does not treat fandom with the same weight as organized religion.
As far as bronies go, from personal (irl, outside of the fandomings, before i was a brony) experiances I belive that the overbarance has nothing to do with the group itself, but personality structers.
....
And the fact that 13-18 year old boys have a tendancy to develop a god-complex...
There is also the concept of "vocal minority" that could play into this, but i think that explanation is overused.
I would go deeper, but I.... tend to have trouble convaying my intent when i do that.... So i'll just leave it at that...
Hey look, I'm doing that thing where you put pics at the end of posts.
You are not alone. You may think I am a "brony", but you are far far mistaken. I just enjoy some parts, but remain otherwise neutral.
It is shoved in faces to much perhaps, far to much. Hints of it is all that is needed, natural curiosity takes over from there and the person will seek if they are interested. Not sure about the homosexuality part as you cannot go about on it, its a zone best just left ignored and alone. Art is art, if thats what they draw and only know how, then that is their choice and none else to make. I have not watched a episode since 05 magic duel, no more interest. The pandas took over as well the poorly designed story lines.
These are those people that ruined the fandom that once was nice. However those that do remain reflect upon what went wrong, which to this day has never been understood. An never let the statement love and tolerance fool, its most time quite literally the opposite that I have found.
Believe me. I get this crap all the thime and I tell them to get lost. TBH from what I have been told. All fandoms tends to be, how can I say this. Stupid IMHO
Masturbating to pony-porn. Well, that is a big thing that everyone always says so they have some way to make bronies look bad. But this is something I really like to explain :3
I dislike fapping to ponies, but I let people do what they do. I don't have any problems with those who like to whack to a humanized character, but one of the ponies? No thanks. I still know, and accept the fapping because of that, that it's not always the fact that they are cartoon-ponies.
Also you have to understand. its still considers bestiality in my perspective and its a sin.
And why should we act any different than you guys, hm? The whole "Oooh, I'm acting nicely towards you only because I'm a brony." NO!!! NO GOD NO!!! NOOOOOO!!!
Hehe. I tend to do that but most of the time is in myself
But the real problem is the dumb lingos that bronies use. for instance they tend to use the words "everypony" or anypony" or "bohoof" Before you know it, they dont say what they learned at school anymore. Its very annoying to me.
And the love and tolerance thing is a troll tactic. it is impossible for every person in the world to love. the universe was made by god to have a negative side, like an imperfection. if there was no imperfection, well we wouldnt exist at all, quoted by Stephen Hawking.
Believe me. I get this crap all the thime and I tell them to get lost. TBH from what I have been told. All fandoms tends to be, how can I say this. Stupid IMHO
People just want others to be like they are, to maintain balance. Most just don't really want to deal with what they don't understand, so they try to remove it from themselfs (works either way and outside of fandoms, really fandoms are kinda like religions)
Also you have to understand. its still considers bestiality in my perspective and its a sin.
I agree
But the real problem is the dumb lingos that bronies use. for instance they tend to use the words "everypony" or anypony" or "bohoof" Before you know it, they dont say what they learned at school anymore. Its very annoying to me.

I wouldn't call it that, but I get the point you are trying to make. I'm not an advocate of it as the "Brony Motto" or whatever, but I do believe in it. Actually.... it's part of what got me into the show.
(going back to the few weeks before i started watching MLP)
I always saw a bunch of pony avatars floating around on various forums, and thought it was kinda wierd that they would like a show like that. I also had a bit of prejudice against it because my mom taught 3-year-olds, so I had seen plenty of little girl shows while watching her class. Personally, I thought they were fine (aquired adaption, you stop being annoyed by things over time), but I could not understand how it would appeal to OTHERS my age.
Eventually though, I realized that I was judging what I did not understand, and realized that in order to have an opinion, I would have to see and understand the subject matter. Thus I loaded up "Fall Weather Friends" and watched it. It was about... 10:00pm? After a while... I realized it was 4:30 AM and I was watching a little girls show.
Thus I try not to judge peoples interests unless I am experianced with it.
That's my view on and definition of 'Tolerance'
As far as 'Love'.... I love and appreciate everyone, on some level... just don't try to take anything from me, because I'm a bit vengeful.
You are missing the point. there are something that the motto can affect. I have opinions that are just out of whack that you dont want to hear. but if you do, just ask
I'm sorry to appear during such a discussion on the thread after all this time, but I felt it necessary to get some more variety of opinion in here.
For those of you who are getting tired of this sort of topic coming up, let me tell you first that I completely relate. Sometimes it seems that it's those who do not like the stuff that bring it up more often than the people who partake in it.
I use to be a brony but what bothers me is this. The fanbase tends to shove it at peoples faces constantly
I feel like I'm the one person who has rarely encountered this. From time to time I'll see someone that has made an unnecessary reference to the show in some place on the internet, and they're usually reprimanded by fellow fans and 'non-bronies' alike.
When it does happen, I don't let that get to me. I don't identify myself to a group based on how well it behaves all the time; the general openness and generosity of the community is great to enjoy, of course, but I consider myself a fan because I enjoy the show and its fanmade content.
they actually masturbate to the porn work of the show
Cloppers are nothing new. People have found the sexual appeal of 'innocent' things since man's earliest days. It's a part of who we are, and I feel that a lot of those who find it disgusting are basing it solely on personal opinion. As much as I can respect that, there are limits.
I myself find nothing wrong with it, because there are a lot of good reasons why people find these equines attractive.
promote homosexuality with fanfics and pics
I'm gonna stop you there. I do what I can to treat people with mutual trust and respect, but I can't help but feel that my view of you dropped sharply at that remark.
I understand that there are people who don't like something for whatever reason, but usually it's best to keep it to yourself, especially when it's unnecessary to bring up to begin with as well as being a subject of controversy.
act elitist towards mellow people and haters.

I agree, it does look like he could lighten up a little. However, you have not shown us the full context of the conversation. How do we know you weren't being especially condescending and rude at the time?
I want an honest opinion from others.
And here you have one.

Do you like space games? I like space games. You should check out Starsector!
I saw this topic this morning and was filled with passion and the will to respond--but I didn't have time. Now I return, it's been worn down with post after post, and I no longer feel the need to add my opinion.
Suffice it to say I'm as disgusted by idiots as anyone, whether they be brony or not, but I stick around anyway and I don't let it ruin my enjoyment of the show and the fanart. Also, reading a fanfic about two female ponies having smoochy time with each other won't suddenly turn you homosexual; if the desire's already there, it's there. If it's not, fiction won't bring it out. And there are already fictional lesbians otherwise.
Have some arts.

So guys, in addition to discussing the literary merits of The Immortal Game with my creative writing professor, I'm also writing a paper on it for MLA Research Writing. I love college.
And my school appears to have sorted their internet issues. Yay.
Not sure how you see this as something negative. Oh well, I'm sure that the other people will have thoroughly replied to everything you said.
Anyway, as someone said with posting a link to EqD, japan will have ponies now. I do wonder how to voices will be, cause the English voice of the ponies are so splendid (like Rainbow DAsh', no VA would be able to make such a "special" type of voice). I do look forward to the songs, I haven't heard a lot of the songs on other languages, mostly because they are all kinda crap, some good, but never close to the English one. For some reason I think that Japan may be able to do it quite right, probably because of the animes I have seen with there very enjoyable (for me atleast) intro and outro songs.
edit: well, I just found out I won't be able to sleep until I have read everything.
The Whovian fandom is pretty big, who knows, maybe it is HUGE, and the time I have been one (atleast a year), I haven't met anyone "bad". It's more like that the normal people don't go out to say crap to you, they just enjoy the fandom and stuff and sometimes bring it up with a quote or something. Then you have the stupid people, and they want to do it everywhere, feel like they should make everyone a part of the fandom, and this makes it seem as a huge part is the stupid people, while in real it is more like 1/3 stupid, 1/3 normal and 1/3 normal that you never see, cause they don't discuss it on the internet or anything (these numbers aren't correct, just to show what I mean).
Oh, and I would in no way call fapping to ponies bestiality. I mean, it are drawings, nothing more, the ponies don't even LOOK like real ponies. Yeah sure four legs a head and a body, but with those clop images, you can't see it as fapping to beastiality sexs. And even if it is against what you believe is right, they really don't do anything wrong. I mean, it are drawings, get over it. Clop is always one of the main reasons for hate, but it is just so, well... Normal to be in a fandom, and clop never goes further than drawings. I really don't see the issue.
Anyway, tired, so yes, I may have said something stupid without realising, do excuse me for it if I did.
(I just had to write something, or I wouldn't be able to sleep because I would wonder about this).
So, has anybody else seen the pony version of Guude?

So I was working on this really cool resource pack a while ago, but bad progress nonwithstanding, I think I found something much better... I'm probably gonna release a couple of maps soon as unrelated well.Until we meet again...
I have nothing to add to the current discussions, so I'm posting a lot of pictures, some of them more relevant and interesting than others (they will be separate from the rest of the imagedump).
First, I finally traded my AJ, RD and Rarity McDonald's toys for a much smaller, molded-hair, somewhat incorrect but still so much better Twilight!
Like I said, though, she's much smaller than the McDonald's toys. Here's a pic for scale with my other things:
You might not be able to tell, but she has Rarity's eyes. Also, her cutie mark has a five-pointed purple star rather than six-pointed (though the white star has six points) and it's only on one side.
My shelf of nerdiness (protip: keep a shelf of nerdiness. My whole family does) is nearing completion! In March, when I get my Bioshock Infinite Handyman figurine, it will have a representative of each of my four obsessions!
Romantically Apocalyptic has made an MLP reference, though it's not much of a surprise considering the creators have been known bronies for quite some time:
Now, the rest of the pictures:
☝ That comic wouldn't have entertained me whatsoever if not for the last panel, which split my sides in its own right. ☝ Flufflepuff anthro'd. I never thought I'd see the day.
And now to devote the rest of this post to best pony. A ton of best pony. Seriously, a crippling amount of best pony.
CURSE YOU DEVIANTART "MORE LIKE THIS" BOX! Every time I opened another Tavi arts I saw three more in the box. I actually had to stop myself so I wouldn't be at it all night...
The fact that my computer and/or window didn't crash or else some other mishap occur while I was copy-pasting all that, even when keeping all the images open in other tabs, is a massive testament to how much God loves me.
My shelf of nerdiness (protip: keep a shelf of nerdiness. My whole family does) is nearing completion! In March, when I get my Bioshock Infinite Handyman figurine, it will have a representative of each of my four obsessions!
My shelves of nerdiness contain mostly old handcrafted things I made back in school (that don't relate to anything). I do however have a set of Wall-E and Eve figures.
The closest thing to a pony is my little blue Dalahäst
It seems to be a trend this season to redeem the villains of the past. Both Trixie and Discord both left on a high note with friendship in tow.
What do you think of this outcome? Do you want your Trixie's to be Great and Powerful and Discords chaotic? And if you do, which villian would you want to see join their ranks next?
I skimmed past this, but it really bothers me now that I look at it.
First of all, it's an ad hominem attack and completely irrelevant to the discussion. For you to just say this and nothing else in response to his thought-out reply makes it seem a lot like you know that you lost and it jitters your critters. Not a very good strategy.
Secondly, as Larsie said, he's not a native English speaker. And you really should've considered that before making that accusation. So on top of looking like a child resorting to "NO U," you now seem both insensitive and rather dumb.
Plus, your post had nothing to do with ponies, therefore it was off-topic.
Why are you even sticking around here if you're "no longer a brony," anyway?

I'm not a fan of redemption, honestly. But it fits with the topic of the show and it's helpful for the kiddies, so I'll accept it.
I don't know if I am being stupid, but who is meh? It looks like it may be Luna, but I don't know.
I would post a picture, but it's hard to draw when you constantly have teacher yelling at you for having a sketchbook.
So have a random connection to a random subject instead.
Has anyone made any Pokemon Soulsilver/Heartgold crossover-stuff yet. I'm only wondering because your "childhood friend" is named Lyra. Lyra as in Lyra, as in Bon-Bon. I was going to draw something, but I am banned from drawing at school. True story.
Also, sorry if this seems off topic.

I agree that the redemption thing is a little silly. But it does fit with the theme of the show, with the friendship and acceptance and all of that. Though, I think there should be a few villains that are villains for the sake of being a villain.
