Metallica and Dethklok are sort of what got me into metal. I still like them, along with the classics like Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Dio. I also really like Amon Amarth, Opeth, Children of Bodom, and Cannibal Corpse along with several other bands. I also like some metalcore/deathcore stuff like Oceano, iwrestledabearonce, All That Remains, Suicide Silence, and The Devil Wears Prada which a lot of metalheads I know seem to not like. Don't get me wrong, I don't like that stuff as much as straight up metal, but it's great when I'm in the mood for it.
Nu (Korn, SOAD), Prog (DT), Power (Falconer, Dream Evil, Poisonblack), black (Amon Amarth), death (Eluveitie), folk (Falconer, Eluveitie), pretty much all of it.
Edit: Can't forget pirate metal! Alestorm.

I realized I was god when I tried praying and found I was talking to myself.
I know that there are some bands there that are not metal (eg. Pink Floyd), but I'm really open when it comes to music taste so I like other things than metal.
black sabbath, amon amarth, dimmu borgir, lamb of god, megadeth, anthrax, chimaira, MACHINE ****ING HEAD ( Im a huge fanboy of machine head), and a shitton of other bands man, i love metal
Ah this is my type of topic. Dream Theater, amazing as hell. Glad Mike Portnoy stayed with them, but I wish he went to A7X, but they have a black metal drummer.
I've lately gotten into FFDP and I'm quite into their growls/screams, vocal's are fantastic, drumming skills are great (practice a song at my drum lessons).
Metallica, quite an amazing band. Listened to them for about five years now, and I'm eighteen. Lars Ulrich can be a **** at some points, and he's losing his prime for the drumming, especially for stuff like Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Fight Fire With Fire.
I've heard some sub-genres of Metal that I've never heard before, i.e. Guttural, Guttural Grindcore, Grindcore. Some of those bands are hard to hear vocals, but the band names are lolfilled (i.e. Anal Blast, sorry for the curse word thar).
I've listened to a lot of metal bands, and I'm glad there are others out there. Glad you made this thread.

wait. Portnoy stayed with the band?
Was this just recently announced? Because not a few months ago it said he left.
Every where I'm looking it says nothing of him returning to the band.

I just checked some of his sites and all signs point to no, he is not back in the band. Sucks, kinda got my hopes up.
On Topic - I'm a big fan of Dream Theater (obviously), Opeth, Tool, and Gojira. Lately I've been checking out the Korean scene and holy crap, they can rock. Schizo, Vassline, and Crash are a few Korean metal bands and they're nuts, top notch. Here are a couple links to videos of them.

Portnoy was awesome. Call me weird but I'm excited to see where they go from here. I wasn't really enjoying the direction mike was taking them in the past few years anyways. Still really stellar stuff mind you...but it just wasn't ringing with me like the older more proggy stuff did.
He was with them for the album only, then he left to stay with Dream. I'm saddened now. ):
What?
That's not anywhere.
Where are u getting this info?
He isnt back with dream theater.
Besides...he started in dream theater, and did some drums for avenged. He didn't start there with avenged.

He finished the album for Nightmare, and I'm not that much into Dream Theater anymore, been listening to A7X and Stone Sour for the concert.

I regularly listen to Black Metal and related stuff.
Bands like Burzum, Nox Pestes, Samael, Falkenbach, Behemoth, Enslaved, ...
I also like Nu Metal Bands like Korn, Disturbed, Pleymo, ...

He made the album with them, touring as long as they wanted him to stay with them. Now Dream Theater don't want him back due to social problems inside the band. (Between James LaBrie and Mike Portnoy mostly).
Perhaps Marco Minnemann will join in. Hopefully..
- Although I love Mike, of course. But in case the tension is bad when he's in, he should get out.
