It's very difficult to categorize movies into neat little genres but... Do you have any favorites? Are there any genres you dislike?
I'm very drawn to the 70's and 80's horror exploitation films. I really like how they attempt to horrify through the use of disturbing imagery and gory visuals, with scenes that are often slow-paced and (relatively) quiet that leave the viewer with a feeling of unease and repulsion.
Just watched Jojo Rabbit. It's easily one of my favorite films now.
Everything about this movie is brilliant but I particularly liked the ways in which the characters and situations are presented, and how they evolve as the story progresses. How in the beginning everything is colorful and happy; and Jojo's "best friend" is quite nice and supportive while Elsa is threatening and mean. Every part of this film really helps to convey Jojo's own shifting views of the world. I absolutely love it.
Thank you so much for suggesting it! I'll definitely look more into Taika Waititi.
I know it's wrong make this kind of comparison but am I the only one who thinks the style of this film is like a toned down version of Wes Anderson's own? The pastel color palettes, the symmetrical perspectives, the character shots, the quirky personalities... They all remind me so much of his movies.
Little late (pardon me, I don't check this forum that often anymore, I'm very busy with shudder adult stuff) but yeah I get really strong Wes Anderson vibes from Taika Waititi's stuff. The characters from Jojo Rabbit really reminded me of the Fantastic Mr Fox (which I enjoyed thoroughly). They've got the same kind of hilarious quirkiness to them and I love them.
