I mean, it's really not all that good at all. It's just the same as any other zombie show or movie. (Also, yes I can compare it to a movie because all of the actors have been playing in the show for longer than it takes to make a movie). I mean, every zombie show or movie is the same.
1). Search for shelter.
2). Search for food and water.
3). Search for guns, vehicles and survivors.
4). Argue about stupid stuff and then die.
Lastly, kill zombies, and it's nothing special. (To me at least) So I need people to give me good reasons on why it's such a "great" show. My girlfriend is "addicted" to it and I just don't see why.

I don't actually like Walking Dead myself but I understand sorta the symbolism and such. The show is pretty much about the bare human emotions and interactions, just without the comfort provided in a first world country. If the people stopped being jerks on the show the survivors would have an much easier time. But it doesn't work like that, everyone has to be selfish, they are willing to lie, steal, and killing for their own survival. In the end we are left to question who are the actual brain dead people.
Now personally I don't really like the show and that's basically because I dislike a lot of the characters, pretty much everyone on Rick Grime's group I find annoying, especially Carl and Beth (not surprising seeing they are among the younger members). I actually was rooting for Abraham most of the time. And I know that there's kinda a DIY charm to show but I find most of the camera shots and colouring to be completely underwhelming like I'm watching an old family picnic video from 1998. Don't know that's just me.
Why do people like Game of Thrones so much? I mean seriously all they do is:
1: Get a bunch of people with swords
2: Go fight people with swords
3: Burn their things and steal their woman
4: Argue a bunch.
If you look at any show this way it'll look bad. Have you honestly ever seen the complete first season? Because it is NOTHING like what you described.

where do i start off with whats wrong with this thread?
as i walking dead fan (of both comics games and the tv show)
first off what are we talking about the tv show or the comics? next how far have you read/watched? i mean watching the first season (even though season 1 is my fav) shows nothing about the show season 3 is where its at in the show (i think the peak so far) but we saw a major a mount of growth of the threat of humans vs humans instead of pure fear the dead stuff)
but here goes my rant for why these series are really good.
lets start off with the games shall we. the first season of the game was really good it starts off as a convicted guy heading to jail for murder yet there car crashes and its off on his own shortly he meets a little girl which is the theme of the game you take care of her both you and her benefit form this relationship am trying not to spoil much cause they really are great games which i think any true gamer should give a try to. season two on the other hand (not spoiling anything) has much more depth with in game choices that really are heartfelt and you feel bad for these choices of the out come great games.
now the comics, the comics are much better then the show which i could go into a full on novel of how detail these are (you got the comics with the main story then novels or chapter books which give more back story to important people in it which just adds more meaning to that person) for example am going to use Brian (not what he is know as in the book but its his real name) but starts off as a weak guy who cant handle the un dead walking but meets his brother Phillip and penny (but there is a major plot twist here)
for the tv show please watch more then the first episode to judge it cause your show real bias to nothing you know about

Actually, yes I have. In fact, I watched every single episode and stopped at the latest episode. But I don't like the show anymore because it's the same things over and over again. Yes, the first season was great, and the second season was good, but then it just got old. And I wasn't talking about every single genre, I was talking about zombie shows/movies only. And they are all the same.

Dude, no one was talking about the comics or games, so you're far off topic.

How is it the same thing? It's a post-apocalypse survival show it has to touch upon the same realistic themes several times in different situations, just because it does that doesn't mean it's repeating itself.

I take it you're not a fan of the apocalyptic genre then? The Walking Dead features normal people reacting to a scenario in which they must lose their humanity to survive. You're quite right when you say that this is similar to other post-apocalyptic works. The overarching themes are about the same. People struggle to survive, and determine that humans are the real threat. This is the case in The Walking Dead, Attack on Titan, Highschool of the Dead, The Last of Us, and just about anything set after the apocalypse. However, fans of the genre notice that there are differences between these works, even between zombie works. If you can't see the difference between The Walking Dead and The Last of Us, then that's okay. To each his own, and such. Some people can see the differences, though, and admire both.
That's basically the answer for all "Why do people like (blank) so much?" threads. People have different taste. You might believe one show to be complete garbage, while another person may find it to be amazing.

I'll have to agree watching 3 or so seasons into the show on netflix. This show is probably an accurate portrayal of what the reminder of humanity would react to such a global threat. The two problems or bias this show has in the aspect is that any of the characters that aren't murdering, cheating, back stabbing, selfish, jerks are either killed, faded out of the story, or molded by the jerks to become one.
The other is Dyrall. He is without a doubt the overall draw to the show. His popularity has done nothing but gain momentum. The show had already, as far as I had watched, centered the show around a character that Robert Kirkman never created for the comics. When/if the shows ratings decline it won't be a coincidence the character is killed or Norman Redus decides to leave. That show relies on the character too much in my opinion and from what I hear it hasn't changed.
I usually watch fiction to escape reality. So I do not understand how people are entertained by a situation that probably isn't too far from fiction. Give me Adam West Batman any day over shows like this.

“We’re all going to die, all of us, what a circus! That alone should make us love each other but it doesn’t. We are terrorized and flattened by trivialities, we are eaten up by nothing. ” -- Charles Bukowski
The show is so popular because it's realistic. Characters die left, and right like they would if an apocalypse were to happen. It's not fanciful, it's brutally realistic. And people enjoy that realism.
If you don't like it, then ignore it no one is forcing you to like it.

Comic Sans is the best
Compared to a movie, this show is has crap character development.
