From what I recall, Dragon Ball Z is relatively appropriate. The original Dragon Ball Series (main character as a child) is one you should avoid because I don't wanna get reported!
I can guarantee the Nickelodeon "Dragon Ball Z Kai" remake is, I haven't seen the older ones in a while since my friend took his disks back. That's the only one I can guarantee, 100%, as they had to make it child appropriate. Dragon Ball GT should be, too, but it's a little iffy.
Yeah, just look at DBZ Kai. I really don't wanna get reported here, and my memory's a bit iffy on how "child friendly" the original series were.

My avatar-Madison Gotha. She knows various weapons, she's a mage/sage, and is somewhat immortal. Madison has the capability of taming and communicating monsters, a genetic trait passed down by her father. 26 physically, 1400-something mentally, and a Lofty Peakian/Zenithian mix. Doesn't really like being called an elf and hates being called human..
I might be Moderator, but don't bother treating me too special. And don't make tons of Ban Hammer jokes, please. Also, I'm an Off-Topic only Mod. Don't ask me to lock a thread or something if it's not in the off-topic
To my recollection, Fullmetal Alchemist doesn't have anything too inappropriate, though there's quite a bit of violence (but frankly that's pretty unavoidable in any shounen show). Nichijou is pretty solidly PG, and is probably the best comedy show I've ever seen, so that's a good option. Squid Girl, although there are a few instances of innuendo, is practically a kids' cartoon, same as you'd see on western TV. There's also Tamako Market (a beautiful KyoAni show), which I enjoyed though it seems a lot of people didn't, and which has easily the worst English dub I've ever heard in my life, oh god. Also, there's Tsuritama, which is a PG and really charming story about, um... fishing. It's good.
I would also vouch for Full Metal Alchemist, it's an excellent show and just some minor violence. I would rate it PG. It would probably help if you mention what you are looking to avoid such as curse words, violence, etc.
Isn't Brotherhood just a remake of the original series with a different outcome that more closely follows the manga? I've only seen the original, not Brotherhood, so there may be some aspect of this I'm missing, but it seems sort of redundant to watch them both.
