This is a simple and straight-forward question. Should I get the Elgato or Hauppauge PVR Gaming Edition 2 Plus for live streaming Xbox 360/Computer? It is hard because both are very good, so I wanted to see what you guys think.
Any of the AverMedia stuff really is quite good. Though has a price premium.
Just make sure you get one that supports HDCP.
Ah, forgot about the HDCP. There are ways with getting around it, but it's honestly pretty annoying to get around. I think the PS4 and PS3 are the only consoles that are affected by HDCP.
Anyway, you shouldn't be affected as you're only streaming/recording Xbox 360/PC.

HDCP decrypters are only like $40 now I think (now that the master key is ALL OVER the internet and has been for years), the issue is that some cheaper ones cause noticeable lag.
I just recently managed to get hold of a secondhand Hauppauge PVR Gaming Edition 2 Plus quite cheap and do not regret buying it. It is easy to set up to the xbox 360 S and I do agree the software that came with it could have been better. I wanted to use my blue snowball microphone to record commentary during gameplay and downloaded and installed the hauppauge capture software and was pretty surprised it picked up my voice clearly. I have made a few recordings and was pleased with the end result. I tried playing the game from the screen capture window and there is a few second delay in frame rate so I do not recommend it even if you have a top gaming pc. At the moment I share one vga monitor with my xbox and pc on a kvm switch and will save and eventually get hold a second monitor with hdmi inputs and I am sure this will help with the game plays as its no fun playing from the capture screen, too much lag. I am curious to know if you can use the pvr 2 with just one hdmi monitor for recording and gameplay successfully with no lag.

Elgato: 2 Votes.
Hauppauge: No Votes Yet.
The PVR has no quality control issues, and is easier to deal with, but comes with terrible software (which you can get 3rd party replacements for).
The Elgato has quality control issues, the warranty is garbage, and it's difficult to work with, but the software is OK.
