My friend constantly complains of a buzzing noise when we talk over steam. I learned that I may have this weird ground loop thing but i'm not too sure. Windows 8 allows me to listen to my own mic, so I do, and i've noticed the low buzzing goes away when i touch the computer case. I've learned that a 3rd prong is to ground a device, but I currently live in europe where they do not use 3 prongs on their plugs. What can i do so i don't have to constantly touch my case? I want a solution that doesn't require me to buy things. I will if i have to. My headset just started doing this last week, but up until then it's been fine. If i reposition the case, sometimes it fixes it self, but most of the time no.
well.. is there any way to ground my computer to get rid of the buzzing noise? it's really annoying, and i can't really talk to my friends over steam without it buzzing which kinda sucks. I am thinking about buying a new pair of headphones, but that will probably not remedy the problem. Is there such thing as a headset that is already grounded, like via it's cable or something? If so, that would probably be much better.
Ok, then how can I ground a computer without using a grounding plug? The house my family is currently renting does not have grounded electricity, as the house is somewhat older than most houses. Is there any major downside to not grounding a computer?
Ok, after a bit of research on the house I am living it, the house does in fact have grounding, and my computer and monitor are protected by a grounded surge protector. The buzzing was caused by my ipod plugged into an ipod charger in another nearby set of sockets along the same wall. After unplugging my ipod, and the charging dock, the buzzing ceased to make noise.
Throw away that charger in the nearest dumpster and never look back.
Seriously, something is wrong with that thing and if it is so wrong that it causes so much noise to affect a PSU of a PC.... ugh.
Nothing wrong at all, just standard Chinese bootleg quality.

Do you even know what grounding means...?
"Programmers never repeat themselves. They loop."

Oh... well. I probably should ground my computer then. Plus that would solve the headset issue. Alright thanks guys for all the replies.
