Hey all, I've recently started looking at laptops to replace my current one. My current setup is a Dell Inspiron 1545 stock except for upgraded memory, 8GB. minecraft. I am going to go to school for engineering so I figured I'll need a beefier machine to handle the programs. I play games too obviously and if the machine can smoothly run games, I'm sure it will handle engineering stuff. Currently, I get about 15 fps on vanilla minecraft with barebones graphic settings (tiny render distance, max fps, no bobbing , no smooth lighting, etc.) That gets bumped up to about 20 - 30 fps if I use optifine. I would like to get a machine that would let me play with highest settings on far render distance. Any ideas for a budget of about 2000 USD ? Any help is appreciated!
Well for that budget. Stay away from alienware or mac.

Sager
Msi
Asus (the ROG series)
I would PERSONALLY (that means its my opinion and nobody need shoot it down) go with an i7 quad core processor, try to get a new 760 GPU. and 8gb of ram is still plenty. I have 32gb in my laptop and 16gb in my desktop. So from experience 8gb is plenty lol
Thank you very much! Speedy response too! I will look into your suggestions and I will let you know if I have any more questions if thats allright with you!
Only minecraft or do you plan on differant more demanding games?
If just minecraft, find an A10 Lenovo laptop.
Also, does it need to be a laptop? Or could you get a desktop instead? Or a combo? $600 laptop and $800 desktop?

He said he would be using it for engineering school, so an A10 wouldn't cut it.
To OP: Try to examine your priorities. Will you be using it for both gaming and engineering work equally? If so, get a decent spec'd MSI/Sager/Asus with a Radeon or a GeForce card. If you think that you will be using it for primarily engineering work and only game when you have time, you may even be better off with a Quadro or the AMD equivalent(FirePro or something?).
Thuas why i said A10 and a $800+ desktop. the desktop could be teamveiwered to and do any calculations needed, or OP could just do his rendering and such at home.
