This morning as i loaded up steam, there appeared to be an update. So i just let it update there, but halfway through it, AVG came up saying that the file: natteypeprobe.dll was infected with a trojan horse. Every time it detected that, steam had to close down and restart the download, so this file must be important. I couldn't scan the file through what the AVG website reccomended to test false-positive, as it was locked and could only be accessed by administrator (which i currently am not, don't ask why.) So if anyone could provide some insight into this, i would greatly appreciate it.

Free + Crabs + Ability to trample/suffocate opponents in Cortex Command = Free Bombs.
I dont have AVG anymore, but there should be an exceptions or ignore list somewhere, dig around through settings/options or features.
If even works. I ditched AVG because it started getting sluggish, adwareish "to buy AVG internet security", and false positive galore. Even things I added to Exceptions, it still dint ignore and flagged anyway.
@OP, do yourself an good favor and get something other then AVG.
I did simply ask for an answer, so thankyou the people who did. If you were to read the OP, you would see that i don't actually have administrator access currently. So i cannot switch to a different antivirus. I am also a bit strapped for cash.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) is completely free assuming you have genuine windows installed.
But yes its understood if you don't have admin access.

Your friendly neighborhood dragon. Don't be scared, I won't bite!

If you are paying for antivirus you are most likely doing it wrong. The exceptions are NOD32 and I believe Spybot has a paid version. Other than them, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes are free and work perfectly fine. AVG is bloated and throws out way too many false positives now to be useful in any way except to use it in malware detection testing.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.

If it's in program files\steam\ then it is fine. If not it's malware.
I actually set the path to something else, program files\designedbyIdiots\steam\ is that ok?
(i had trouble installing it. )
EDIT: also, how would i get AVG to ignore it?

In order of "most recommended" to "least recommended".
You can try out the SpyHunter anti-virus. It sweeps away lots of different kinds of viruses and malware.
