Lately I have been saving my money up for a new graphics card, due to my games being a bit choppy. I was wondering if anybody would know of a graphics driver that can run Minecraft well. I would like to be able to run HD texture packs, on maxed out settings. Or should I be investing on more RAM. Thanks in advance -iBlok

Please google, download, and run Speccy. Then provide either a screenshot or the list of information that pops up in the window. We'll also need to know what power supply you currently have. This will be a box in the top back or bottom back of your computer's tower.
Also, we need a budget range and country of residence.
Model: Inspiron 570
Processor: AMD Athlon II X3 435 Processor 2.90 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 6.00 GB (5.75 GB usable)
System Type: 64 bit Operating system
Power Supply: 300 watts
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4200
Ask me if there is anything else I might be missing. My budget would probably be anywhere from 150$ - 300$. US, Pennsylvania.
If your just playing minecraft you could upgrade your processor to a Amd a10 5800k which is about 100$ then you need a new motherboard etc but u wouldn't need a graphics card as it has a intergraded graphics and should run minecraft fine. but im not sure
I would try to grab a nice barebones kit and use what you can from your old system. I would say your old system is just fine aside from that fact is an OEM. A 300w PSU is holding you back as well , push for something like 400-500 watts. Just aim for a better mobo. Then grab a nice nvidia gfx card. One that you have to plug in power to. Not just attaches to the mobo.

There are only three models I would recommend, AMD cards are better if it's just minecraft.
Anyways, here is a decent one for minecraft if you can't change the PSU.
as others have said get a new system heres what i would suggest for running mc on far/fancy smoothly:
cpu: quad core @ 2.5ghz
ram: 4 gb
psu: 750+ watts
gpu: nvidia gts 450 1gb+ (or ati Equivalent)
and if you really want to spend money id suggest considering a solid stat hard drive
whats wrong with you... none of that is needed.
a duel core will work fine
Ram =/= performance
psu =/= performance
gpu is weak...
and he will not need a solid state...

Proud member of the MCF AWA war of '13! if someone suggests Alienware or Cyberpower, wait for a custom-built list from someone who knows their stuff. Meh Rig

Just no.
Core/GHz really doesn't matter in this case. An i3, a low end AMD, or even an APU is good for minecraft. Never judge a CPU based on GHz and # of cores. Also, why the hell would you buy a 750w PSU to power a GTS 450? With that GPU you would need maybe 500w. Also, an SSD will not improve FPS in minecraft. An SSD simply increases loading/boot times of OS/Programs. As for RAM, it really doesn't increase gaming performance. 2GB of RAM is probably enough for minecraft.

With all respect, your advice is awful.
Barebones kits are just as bad. And your advice towards a graphics card is just plain uninformational. A GTS250 fits your description of one that has to be plugged into.
OP, if you are willing to build your own computer, how much you will want to spend will depend on what you're doing. If you're only playing or recording Minecraft, a $500 budget is more than enough. If you want to play games like BF3, or other more modern and graphically intense games, an $800-1000 budget is more appropriate. That's before adding in peripherals.
A $500 budget, before OS, will easily chomp through Minecraft and other games. Depending on how long before you can get the money, prices and technology change rapidly. There's new, next-gen technology not too far off, so it really depends on when you have the money what components you'll be buying.

Does your forum name describe your state when you posted this?
Technically you can run it on a single-core, but a dual core is recommended. Cores and clock speed =/= performance. Unless you are comparing the same processor with one at stock speed and one overclocked, clock speed is a rather useless figure.
4GB, yeah, that's fine
750W or more is for an i7 and dual 7950s.

This case is pretty much solved. If you have problems or questions on your own, please make a new thread for yourself.
