Ok, something that's been giving me issues is a video card my sister has. It says it has 4 gigs of vram, but she only paid 400$ for it, while mine has an Nvidia with 1 gig of vram, it can run anything, i paid around 1000 dollars for it, so what's with hers? Is it shared, or is it just a good video card for a great price? Her card is an AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6480G (notebook). Thanks!
It would have to be shared, which severely bottlenecks video bandwidth, and cuts into main memory. My guess is it has 512 mb or so dedicated, and uses the rest when it has to.
I'm assuming you mean she paid 400 for the notebook. The 64xx series is a low end card, that only benefits from the architecture of new cards. It can easily be outperformed by the last generation.
VRAM doesn't really gauge the performance of a video card. Also, your sister's machine has AMD integrated graphics, so her system memory is shared with her graphics. Yours has a dedicated NVIDIA card; do you know the model of your card?
He probably means for the whole comp- you can't find a GPU in the 1k range that has a mere gig of VRAM, as NVIDIA and AMD like to dump tons because they assume people paying that much will be doing multi-monitor.

except for AntVenom
Typically ants aren't poisonous.
That said this has nothing to do with computers.
This.
