I've been having unusually high ping since last night. (300-400 on pingtest.net) I don't know what's causing it. No one in my house is downloading anything, I checked my security and no laptops other then our families' are connected, and the ping is still really high. It gets fixed by resetting the router... for ten seconds. Then it goes back to 300-400 ping. Our download/upload speeds are still normal - 20/.5.
Okay i did try to clarify this in a PM with jppk as to not drag this off topic, but seeing as everyone is jumping on it anyway, ill relay the post.
Aussies play on Aussie servers for games.
where /everyone/ there has similar ping.
And unless you are seriously competitive, playing competitively just for fun is more than livable at 300ms. Trust me. You learn to adjust for the delay. I have been doing it for many years.
anything over 60 ping is noticeable, undesirable but playable. anything over 90-100 is unplayable. How do I know? Well over a decade of gaming, most of which competitively. I stopped competitive gaming a long time ago, doesn't change my feeling towards latency. I do not know a single gamer who bothers to play over 100 ping, once its in triple digits, don't bother.
That is because you live (presumably) in America.
If you lived over here you would know heaps that play with over 100ping.
i live in australiaThe only people i see with that high of a ping people who:
* have bad or cheap internet, and they have no choice. They always get ping in triple digits and they would rather play then not play
* an 8 year old noob kid who has no idea what the hell he is doing, and notices no difference between 5 and 500 ping, 15 and 90 fps.
