Recently, my GeForce 8800 ultra died because i left it in plain sunlight for three days, so i had to buy a new graphics card.
Since i'm mostly playing minecraft, i decided that i don't need a high-end card, so i bought an Asus Ati Radeon HD 5770.
It has the following video outputs:
1x HDMI
1x DVI
1x VGA
Luckily, my screens exactly match this.
After installing the delivered driver from DVD (I tried to install the latest driver from the ATI AMD website, but the installer crashed), i connected it all and booted.
Boot screen shows up on the HDMI and the DVI screen.
After booting, only the DVI and the VGA screen displayed it properly, but the HDMI stays black and it isn't recognized by the system control panel.
Any suggestions?
System:
OS: WinXP x64
Board: Asus p5k-e
I guess the rest is irrelevant, if you need any further information, just ask.
I'm interested in this too. I own a sapphire HD5770 and I'm probably buying my third monitor in a few weeks, but I'm not sure if i need to buy another card or if i can just switch over to HDMI for one of my monitors. I know eyefinity only works with one displayport monitor at least, but I have no idea if this counts for a normal triple-monitor setup too :/

Well, i don't own a DP monitor, and it seems weird to me since this card has no such video output.
Does your sapphire model do so?
Anyways, i played around with my driver settings, and i believe that there's a problem with HDMI.
Mysterious thing is that it works properly on bootup.
I asked around on Freenode.net and they told me that we'll be needing either two graphic cards, a displayport monitor or an active displayport converter. The latter two are expensive as hell, with the converter being easily 100 bucks and the displayport monitor 300 bucks.
I'm going to buy an extra card (a cheap 4000 series), which will do the trick fine. Later this year I'm also upgrading my motherboard and then installing a second HD5770 (crossfire woop woop) so at least I'll be set for now.
Your plan sounds fine, i consider buying a second 5770, too, since they aren't too expensive.
My motherboard (Asus p5k-e wifi ap, as mentioned before) supports crossfire, but one PCI-e slot runs only on x4 speed.
I guess this is not too dramatic, since i've run my old card on this one (it didn't fit into the other one because it covers some SATA slots) without any recognizable issues.

WHAT
*cough*
Don't put your computer next to a window.

I assume a 3 screen setup doesn't work on one single 5770.
Shall i consider buying a DP screen?
Or even a second graphics card? (I have three other monitors laying around)

Which Sapphire model do you have? I own this model:

(Hehehe, they raised the price by CHF 20.- a day after i bought it)
