Hello. I hope this forum is still active. I got this old pc and want to upgrade it so that at least it can run Minecraft smoothly. It's Dell Vostro 200 slim tower with Intel Core 2 E4300 @ 1.80 GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, and I don't think it has GPU on it.
This PC motherboard model is Foxconn G33M02 which only supports LGA775 CPU socket ( i think). I'm planning to buy an Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 @ 3.33GHZ and upgrading to 4 GB RAM.
Is it worth buying or should I buy other processors? and should I get a GPU too or what?
Agreed. Also don't fall victim to thinking as long as it has a large gigahertz number that it's at all comparable. Like the 3.33ghz E8600 you mentioned is in no way, shape or form superior to a Core i9-10900 2.8ghz CPU for example, even though the E8600 is several hundred MHz faster.
I'd say look at parts in higher ranges then that. Like for example I have a GT720 GPU, an i5 6400 and 8GB of RAM and it gets me by with a fair amount of mods without even performance ones to assist. Nothing amazing but for an average computer it fits what I need and otherwise I'll play consoles for more intensive games, I'm not really a PC gamer.
Best to look at any in the i3 or i5 CPU range (more so above Minecraft's minimum/at it's recommended), mid GT/GTX or AMD equivalent graphics cards and at least 8GB of RAM is a good idea nowadays.
Look at any prices for those or prebuilt PC options to get an idea of the amount of money/what more so what fits Minecraft's specs.
I bought my PC for obviously school work but it's better than what I had before which was more Windows XP capable to what is probably more usable with parts made in the last 5 years I think.
