So recently, my computer has begun to crash as a result of me playing Minecraft. It doesn't blue screen it, all it does is freeze the entire thing (with the exception of my cursor for some magical reason) and after about 5 or so seconds, my whole screen goes black, as if it were in stand by mode. My computer continues to run and I have to manually restart it by pressing the power button off and on. This only happens when I play Minecraft and the most bizarre part about it, is that I have an identical computer to my brother's. He has never had this issue before and initially I thought that I needed to get more RAM (I only have 3GB, which is pathetic) but then he told me that this never happens to him, so I don't think that a lack of RAM is an issue. Does anybody have any suggestions? I would appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Here are my specs:
-Windows XP Professional (5.1, build 2600)
-Processor: Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.5 GHz (2 CPUs)
-3072mb of RAM
-DirectX Version: 9.0c
-GPU: ASUS HD 7770 series
It might also be helpful to know that I have a 32-bit computer, I keep my render distance on normal, and I have optifine installed; I keep most of those settings on off/their minimal value. My monitor is plugged into my GPU and I am not using my motherboard's GPU, I use the above-mentioned ASUS.
I don't think that it's my computer over-heating because I play TF2 and other games that are more graphic-intensive, so that might rule that out as a culprit. I get around 30 - 60 FPS while playing Minecraft
Scratch that, I just increased my GPU fan speed from 10% to 20%, and I'm going to play for a while and see if that solves the problem (correct me if I'm wrong, I read in the comments of a similar post, that a user just increased his GPU fan speed and was able to play without crashing).
Here are some things that I have tried (and not worked):
-COMPLETELY reinstalling minecraft (I essentially deleted all the contents of the .minecraft file and downloaded them again)
-pressing ctrl+alt+delete, while the game and my computer crashed
-downloading Razer Game Booster, so that most of my applications are off to maximize my RAM while playing Minecraft
-restarting my computer
If you need more information, please ask! Thank you for your help and suggestions so far!

Are you sure you're not running motherboard integrated graphics? The HD 7770 supports DX 11.1.
I would like to point out that I'm not too bright when it comes to computer tech, so could you explain that a bit clearer? Sorry, I don't want to bother you but I'm not sure how I could check/solve those issues. Also, my brother has an identical computer to mine, yet his game doesn't crash.

After a bit of research, I can tell you that I am using my HD 7770, and not the GPU in the motherboard. Also, DX 11 is for windows 7 only, so I'm stuck with DX 9.0.

Have you tried Ctrl+Alt+Delete yet? I'm thinking it's Minecraft that turns black, and not your entire system, but since it's in fullscreen it seems like it's your entire system. Or are you not playing in fullscreen?
Yeah, I just tried it, and that didn't help. I play with the game window maximized so I guess that it's my entire system. Got any other suggestions? I appreciate your help.
My laptop also start to crash as a result of playing minecraft. But it is quite different from your problem.
I was enchanting and getting items from TMI when my computer black-screened. I have used TMI for 4 years and this kind of severe crash has never happened before.
By the way, I had just changed the modpack for animated lucky block minecraft 1.7.10 forge10.13.4.1614-1.7.10, OS X 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 4096mB.
Thanks!
