My grandson has been using my HP probook to play minecraft, its an older system and he complains a lot about laggggggg,
So for Christmas I am looking to buy him a desktop system of his own, but for real i am clueless of the specs needed to run a good game for him and allow him to download the mod packs. I am at my wits end researching.
(as i have been researching this and not working....my boss has gotten very impatient with me)
Please if you will take a moment and list
a few options for me to help me get this before christmas for him
system specs...including a few graphics card options, ghz, cores, RAM, cached memory......
(Lag doesn't have anything to do with system, it has to do with connection.)
That's not necessarily true, if the system runs out of memory, you'll start to see a lot of lag leading up to an eventual crash.

There is a TON of factors when looking into a build, in regards to minecraft mod packs there are some that have 25 mods that are pretty easy to run. On the flip side there are packs that have 250 mods that are much more resource intensive.
If you let me know your budget I may be able to be of more service. Just be expecting to spend around $400 for just the computer, not including peripherals such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

well, just need some specs so i can go buy the system while the cyber sales are still going on today. I only have $250 which i have a guy that will build a system with an i5 or better... quadcore...8 ram...3+ ghz.... i guess i need to hear on graphics cards, because i keep reading all the onboard intel cards are crap for minecraft. But really want to get a lower price as i have several people to buy gifts for this year.

what about this system?
Definitely not enough for Minecraft to run smoothly.
With a budget like that you're better off grabbing a desktop and putting a low-power graphics card in there, like an RX 460 or GTX 1050.
Do your research though, mainly on the power supply but also on the processor, motherboard, and case.
There's a somewhat common and somewhat dangerous misconception I see on a lot of support forums. Just because a graphics card doesn't require additional 6-pin power doesn't mean it doesn't use power at all. You can still blow up a cheap OEM power supply with a 1050(Ti).

Sorry to say, but $250 for a modded MC build is a very low budget. My suggestion is look for a used desktop on eBay with an Intel i5-2400 and at least 4gb of ram + Windows. One of these will work fine:

And then install a new graphics card. Some good budget options are the GTX 750 Ti , GTX 950 , GTX 1050 Ti, AMD RX 460.
That would be a much better setup than anything you can build.

Macbook Pro 15" Retina - Intel i7 ~ 8GB Ram ~ Nvidia GT 650M ~ 256GB SSD ~ 2880 by 1800 Screen <3
eh, personally i wouldn't buy a prebuilt, building one yourself would give you more bang for your buck
and since hes mostly gonna play minecraft, i think 500$ would be just fine for him
CPU:
Intel Core I3-6100 (You have a better upgrade path so you can get a i5 or even a i7)
Mobo:
ASRock H110M-HDS Micro ATX
8GB of RAM
Since hes gonna use mods, i reccomend getting a 1TB hard drive
MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
And any PSU and case would do
hope this helps!
