I'm thinking of buying a laptop for my son for his birthday, but I'm on a budget. I've been doing research on laptops but I don't know much. Right now we have a home HP all in one pc but he wants a laptop to play Mineplex with his brother.
I've been looking on Bet Buy and came up with these. PLEASE help??

Oh, sorry, you didn't understand. That's fine, some people are dense.
I really had no idea computers had more than just RAM.. Oh wait, I did!
Are you serious? If you could read you would be able to tell I didn't say that. I meant you don't need 8-16 GB to play minecraft, but I guess that flew over your head.
Yeah they're more expensive than builds. Did you even read my post? I said not as overpriced as people say but I still wouldn't recommend them. Not too long ago, I saw one of there "gaming" consoles with an 860m for 330$..
Okay! It's not like almost any of the newer AMD APUs could run MC(And lots of other games) just fine and cost quite alot less than a good CPU+GPU.
Man.. You should've said you we're old before! Then I'd have to agree on everything! Not to mention you have a laptop that runs MC at 300 FPS! Must be smart!
Dude, he's not building. I don't know why no one can get that some people don't want to.. Feel free to find a better pre built. You're so good at this, it should be no problem!
I'm not flaming, and this is just an opinion.
OP, if you're getting integrated graphics then you may as well get a cheaper PC (Or laptop.) with an A10 or something. You could most likely pick up something pretty cheap around $300. I'm sure you could even find laptops with i3's and integrated graphics for $300 as well. An i5 isn't needed for Minecraft. I don't know if integrated graphics will perform with 60 fps but it's a better bang for the buck then spending on an i5 and integrated graphics, as it's just overkill for Minecraft. (Even with shaders, an i3 is more than enough as long as you have a decent GPU. I believe Minecraft only utilizes 1 or 2 cores, and there'll be maybe 1-2 fps difference with an i5/i7, if that. Minecraft needing more CPU is just a myth. A CPU that is well balanced for the system is a must, but it's not as bad as people say it CPU-wise. With an i3 4150 and integrated graphics I got 40-60 fps average on vanilla and once I got the 960 it boosted my framerate by like 250. If it was CPU-based, then it wouldn't do that. I know this is a bit off topic and that no one mentioned this. I'm just supporting my statement from before
AMD aren't as good as Intel generally, but it depends on your uses. If you're just playing something such as Minecraft at a playable fps, then an A10's integrated graphics is definitely great compared to an i3's integrated graphics. If you're doing a lot of multi-tasking on a very low budget, AMD provide you the FX series, which are absolutely fantastic for multi-tasking on lower budgets due to all the cores. Actually, I'd pick an Athlon or i3 over them at lower budgets for just gaming, but the FX series are still not really going to make a difference when gaming. (Though from what I've heard about the CPU coolers on AMD CPU's, I can't fully recommend them, but I've been researching trying to find if it's true.)
This doesn't really matter though due to the fact that OP is not building. I've found it hard to find Athlons in pre-builts. (Sad really. They're a great bang for the buck.)
Intel, of course, are better for multitasking, but that's only if you're using an i7/Xeon, which are considerably more expensive. i5's are better for gaming, but it depends on what your playing. The FX vs i3/i5 flame wars are generally solved by the fact that FX are better for lower budget multi-tasking, while i3/i5's are generally better for gaming in general. Though, as I said earlier, FX shouldn't have many problems when gaming unless the game is extremely unoptimized. Really though, not many CPU's out there can game well due to the bad optimization in games. Game developers seem to focus more on consoles sadly. That's why I never buy the big and fancy CPU's unless multi-tasking more because games just aren't optimized for them as well. Though the bigger and better CPU's will generally give a more playable framerate on games such as Far Cry 4.
Another flaw that I find with Intel is that their Pentiums are decent for gaming, but will generally need OC'ed for decent performance unless playing Minecraft exclusively (Which even then they're not great unless you're playing Minecraft.), and if you're not knowledgable on OC'ing, you're going to screw something up most likely. Honestly, I wouldn't trust OC'ing on them very much unless it's a z97 board or something. (Z97's with G3258's are just a waste.) H81's and B85's just don't have many power phases, and it's a bit worrisome for me. (The P33 only has a 2+1, am I correct?) Though the power phases are decent, I'd imagine that's quite the stress on the board. Though it generally it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Now back to the G3258, the 2 cores with no hyper-threading hold you back quite a bit on games such as Far Cry 4. (Not even compatible with some am I correct.)
My point with the G3258 is that Intel just don't have many lower-budget options for around $400-500 unless getting an i3 4130 and H81, but I'd rather get an Athlon due to the fact that you can get a better board and be a lot cheaper with them.
As I stated earlier, I'm not counting anyone wrong nor am I flaming, but I'm stating my opinion; and just giving OP an understanding of CPU companies as it's most likely a bit confusing with all the mixed opinions in the thread. I know he's not building, but even with pre-builts you'll have to pick that CPU eventually.
EDIT: I forgot to add that the type of laptops and pre-builts I recommended are if you're just playing vanilla.

Nice post and I can agree wth what you have said for the most part. Personally I would never recommend any and I mean any integrated graphics pc for gaming and it puts to much stress on the cpu which hurts the performance. I have seen this in ever pc I have owned with integrated graphics. With that being said there are options out there for around $500 that have an i5 with a decent graphics card out there you just have to find them and sometimes it will depend on where you live and what stores you have to shop at. Take for example Fry's I am a huge advocate of them because they sale great pc's at good prices but they also sell last years models for much much cheaper. I'll have some recommendations but you know us "old people" have to work and unfortunately my work entails me driving around today so I'm not at my PC.
This is all true, I guess I did get a little overboard on suggesting. For some reason I didn't think an i5 is not really needed for MC.
Although, I'll still recommend that A10. There's actually not many i3's lower than 450$ unless I'm missing something..
It better have been a good wall xD. That thing took me a freaking good 30-45 minutes of my day to write lol. You know what? I'll save it into Libre Office and post it again if I need to explain AMD vs. Intel ever again lol.

I get what you mean. I don't know if I wouldn't recommend it. If you have a decent motherboard then the integrated graphics shouldn't have too many problems.
It does put stress on your CPU, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll shorten its life.

Sure it puts stress on the CPU/Mobo, but it's made to handle it.
If there was a choice or dedicated or integrated then dedicated is obviously the better choice.
But if you're ordering from online you're not going to get anything better than like a R7 250 and even that comes with a terribad CPU, unless you're building.

I want to add to the CPU/Mobo part.
It's made to handle it as long as the motherboard doesn't have a crap circuit.

You see this kind of gibberish is why I need you guys, thanks for taking that much time out of your day for me. But I'm trying to stay to pre built because I can see me screwing something up very easily, just under $500 60fps (with or without optifine). And I don't care at all what it looks like.

I know. I was stating that because I had imagined you were confused to all the mixed opinions on AMD vs. Intel, and eventually you'll have to pick out a CPU even if you are doing a pre-built, as some have different CPU's. I completely understand you wanting a pre-built. I'm not to knowledgeable on which pre-builts are good as I've spent most of my time on the tech fourms with custom builds, so I'll just step back and let someone else recommend a pre-built as I don't want to recommend something faulty. Pre-builts are basically custom builds that have already been built so my posts do apply still. Good luck though!

thx. I did start my own thread after I was told to by another member here. Im new here and never did a forum before about games. I actually googled about laptop and minecraft and this thread came up so I figured I ask. I can't afford an expensive computer for my 9yr old to play minecraft or any games for that matter.
I was looking through all the replies, but most here at PC and I need a laptop. He won't be on everyday or all the tie since summer is starting, but he likes to play and 4 people in the house with one PC gets hard.
Thanks again for anyone who replied and sorry for invading this thread
Allot of people do say I should build one but I'm 13 I might mess something up.
Age doesn't really matter. I'm 13 and I built mine :P. (With the help of my father of course but I researched and all that by myself and payed for a lot of it.)
If you're not confident in it then I wouldn't recommend doing it. It's a follow your gut type of thing.

Ok, now serious.

It just so happens I was helper on mineplex, anyway please make your own thread or just look at some of the things people have sent me to get you some help

I see where you are coming from thank you
I'm still going to recommend the A10 but like scary I do more with custom builds.
I know there are quite a few people here that are really experienced with pre builts though.

Allot of people do say I should build one but I'm 13 I might mess something up.
Do you know if you have a frys electronics near you?

Watch some youtube videos, LinusTechTips/Newegg/Tek Syndicate and decide.
If you still don't want too, then that's fine. But if you do, then just come back here and I"ll set up a list.

Age doesn't really matter. I'm 13 and I built mine :P. (With the help of my father of course but I researched and all that by myself and payed for a lot of it.)
If you're not confident in it then I wouldn't recommend doing it. It's a follow your gut type of thing.
