Yeah Dxtory is the best and its a very good choice , but I have a 4tb hard drive and my pc just wont support dxtory so I don't need to worry about the fraps file sizes, besides me and most others(like pewdiepie and cinnamontoastken use fraps) don't really care about the file sizes as much as good quality and performance
but I am getting a pc with a Nvidia GTX titan 6gb graphics card with 16 gbs of pc ram and an I7 processor so I think that will be way more than enough to run Dxtory without problems
dxtory does have better framerates and file sizes(personally me and my cousin configured it on his pc with the lagarith lossless codec on yv12 setting which gets small enough files and perfect performance)

@Vzchan
The problem with OBS is that you need a lot more processing power to use it, I can't even run a recording with obs on 1280x720 at 8000 kb/sec(this is enough to get actuall quality from it), it keeps lagging in the recording, which is the problem, if you's pc can support large amounts of processing then you should use dxtory cuz its file sizes get pretty small on lagarith lossless codec even on 1080p which is amazing, so all in all if you want the best then use Dxtorywhereas fraps even though recording at 1280x720 is still gonna get a higher bitrate it still doesn't take as much processing power to run so that way the performance is fine and the files are decently high quality

Personally, I use dxtory beacuse I think it's the best. And I'll tell you why. Also, I'll tell you why not to use fraps.
Fraps:
Very good, HD videos, it's very popular BUT the file sizes are MASSIVE. You can just change the codec right? Nope! Not with fraps!
Dxtory:
Same as before, very good, HD videos and the file sizes are massive BUT you can change the codec to fix it.
fraps is not that bad just cuz of its file sizes, I mean there are plenty of youtubers who use fraps, cinnamontoastken, pewdiepie, jeromeasf, thebajancanadian, ssundee and various ppl in the yogscast all use fraps

FRAPS uses a Lossless codec (despite what some are saying here). It's Lossless in the sense that the encoding scheme loses nothing of the original data it is being supplied- that's sort of the definition. I believe the default uses a different colorspace however so some data can be lost before it's even sent to the encoder to begin with. It has a new lossless RGB Option which is exactly what it says on the tin and is in fact entirely lossless. Note that an encoding scheme is lossless simply if the original data put into the encoder is what comes out of the decoder. This holds true for both of the FRAPS codecs as well as for things like png, gif, tiff, and all file archives; jpeg, mpeg, mp4, mkv, etc are lossless formats which are used for Images and video because 100% reproduction is not necessary for some types of media.
Personally, I find Fraps easiest to use.
And you know what? To me that's all I care about. Dxtory is written with poor documentation, barely legible english in parts and I just found it to be a relatively poor user experience. This was a trade-off for a few options that I would never use, so after I recorded a few videos with it I just switched back. It does (dxtory) provide the ability to use better compression on the fly, however most good compression schemes are lossy. This is a problem because when you are editing video the only data loss from encoding and decoding should be from when you create your video and encode it- not before. If you create a encoded output video and then load it into a video editor- you've lost data. It can never come back no matter how many filters you apply. And often you'll then encode the video again, which will lose even more data; that get's even worse if you change the quantizer or other lossy codec options or switch to another lossy codec (and by "another lossy codec" I mean, another codec, because there are almost no lossless video codecs that anybody would use). I see people here saying that because FRAPS uses a codec- it's not lossless. That's stupid. It's not RAW, but the data coming out of the decoder is exactly what went into the encoder. that is the very definition of lossless.
And more to the point, when you are recording data to use in a video editor, you want lossy video. NO QUESTION. If you encode your video using a lossy coder/decoder, you suck and have no idea what you are doing (or, you are aware that you are losing information and don't care).
there is a bloody good reason why mastering studios don't accept 64kbps MP3 files, and it's the same reason nobody should ever open up sony vegas and edit clips for which lossy compression and decompression has already applied. There should only ever be one transformation in the pipeline from the time of recording to when it is in it's final format on the desired medium. This has been the rule since forever- and even before digital video editing, since it was known that transcoding video data through varions analog formats (NTSC, PAL, SECAM, etc.) was a bad idea- data get's lost each step of the way.
Anybody can perform a very simple experiment. most Lossy video codecs work very similar to jpeg; go ahead, open a video edit,r draw a box. save the image to jpeg. Now close the image. reopen it. Save it as Jpeg again. Close it, Open it, Save it as Jpeg again, etc.
Eventually, that square box becomes a blur, often with colourful fringes. the encoder/decoder eventually supplements artifacts which are so-called because they are "artifacts" of the encoder/decoder algorithm being made visible in the image through repetition.
As for teh appeals to authority? The fact that a bunch of random people who make youtube videos are using FRAPS does not give it any credit. the assertion being made is that those people know what they are doing. I've seen some of their videos and let's just say that isn't necessarily the case. It's not like they are popular because of the software they use anyway.
I'm not saying "FRAPS is the best" but rather, what I'm saying is, they all do the same thing. they take the pixels from your screen and save them to files. I don't care how they do it, as long as they do it. For me the selection of what recording program to use is almost trivial compared to the fact that the existence of a video Editor that doesn't absolutely suck balls has apparently eluded humanity since the Amiga Toaster.
Seriously. I've tried several and the suck in them is mind blowing. They have such limited options half the time it's mind boggling. Then they take 4 hours to encode your 1080p video and you find out that for some reason it decided that, no, you didn't need any of those pixels and hey let's only actually encode every 100th frame.
The sad fact is that the only video editor I've used that doesn't absolutely such ass is VirtualDub- coincidentally it's also the only one where the creator didn't evidently spend the bulk of their development time coming up with a bunch of retarded window skin themes for their program.

Yes I would say that Fraps is very good and is one of the best programs I've used for recording, I was still gonna keep Fraps as a backup in case Dxtory ever failed on me, I use Adobe Premiere Pro CC for editing my videos and they come out just fine, I although do record at 60 fps then scale it down to 30 because youtube doesnt go any higher than 30 but I use the frame-blending option to make sure that it still looks just as smooth at 60 fps, still if I had the specs then I would use Dxtory because it just performs too well and its quality is perfectly fine, I usually use Dxtory whenever I can on my crap laptop but I don't set it to yv12 in the lagarith lossless codec settings, I set it to RGB because I too see a difference in quality(but thats like on ppl like us who really see the difference in quality cuz we look really close at the pixels) but still not many ppl see it in which case you can use yv12 without a problem, but still if I'm switching from Fraps to Dxtory then I want the same lossless quality as before, also Adobe Premiere is a very good video editor, Sony vegas on the other hand, I can go into MASSIVE detail on why I don't use it any more, but it all mostly comes down to 2 reasons: Crappy looking frame-blending and stupidly huge file sizes, adobe premiere got me like 2x the amount of compression that sony vegas got me, I usually encode my videos into 1080p as well but since my processor is and Intel I5 it takes around 30-45 minutes for me to render a video from adobe premiere in ".mp4" and the files usually only end up 800mbs-1gb which is fine with me,
I got about the same specs as you, it runs fine on my PC aswell. But I have just noticed one problem, it has a tendancy to crash minecraft, especially when you re-size the screen. Testing out bandicam full now, looking good =D
The reason it crashes minecraft is probably because of the version of Dxtory your using, I had the same problem, use version 2.0.120 of Dxtory and minecraft should stop crashing, DO NOT use bandicam, its quality is s**t compared to Dxtory or Fraps, the reason: it tries and steals whatever power it can to compress the video file, which in turn gives you s**t performance, video compression is for ppl who want small files but don't want as much quality, srsly, if you have those specs and don't mind a glitchy recorder then use mirillis action, yes sometimes the files from it are broken but its file sizes are still very small and have basically the same quality as fraps, but still you have to take into a count that since its files end up broken a lot of the time you may want to try it out a LOT in its trial version before using it, its trial has all the features but last only a month so you can try it out, I would use action if it wasn't as glitchy, if I could then I would message mirillis and ask them if I would help them fix it up to try and stop these glitches, but I've had too many broken video files from action to use it for any recording lately.another thing, sony vegas got me like 1gb-2gbs on file sizes most of the time, its compression sucks compared to adobe premiere

even for desktop recording I don't use bandicam, I just use fraps with monitor aero desktop checked which is fine with me cuz fraps doesnt USE A F**KEN 90% OF MY CPU'S POWER TO RECORD(I'm not even kidding you, I'm getting a 10% jump in cpu usage with fraps recording and a 90% jump when bandicam is recording)

also I find dxtory very easy to configure, but thats probably cuz I've done 6 months of research(not on understanding it) on the best codecs and how to config them.

Only problem with Mirillis Action! is that it is not compatible with ENB mods. At least for skyrim anyway. Don't know about others but I'm going to assume so.
