Ok, tried the old iso again and it worked.. weird. Anyway, I now hat it more than ever. How do you close metro style apps? (only way I found was the windows button, but what if your on a tablet?) Does anyone know who metro apps work with more than one monitor? How do you get to settings? (I got to it with "change account picture")
A tablet edition (like they have done before) and desktop edition would have worked out much better. Do not kill areo and make things look worse than XP. Add features for DESKTOP users.
Also, "Tap here to x" REALLY? NON-tablet users being told to tap, wow. Microsoft makes me start to like Mac OS....
Also, how do you turn it off?? This is just stupid.. Also to see "all apps" you must right click to bring up a giant thing with one tiny bit of it in the corner used?
I suddenly am having homicidal urges toward steve ballmer.
I can't spell, don't shoot me for it! Computer: Intel i5 2500k (Not overclocked for now) 8GB DDR3, 60GB agility3 SSD, 1TB 7200rpm storage, HIS-AMD HD6870. 3 1080p Screens, and one 17 inch, running on the HD3000 and the 6870.

"It's different, therefore it's bad" is pretty much how I read this.

Close, or change apps? To change apps, go to the top left corner and move your cursor down once the window appears.
To close, do the same thing but right click which app you want to close and hit "close".
(only way I found was the windows button, but what if your on a tablet?) Does anyone know who metro apps work with more than one monitor?
No, they are per-monitor. You can however have two (maybe more, I couldn't figure out how) on the same monitor.
To drag them to other monitors, go to the top of the screen and once the hand icon appears, drag it over.
How do you get to settings? (I got to it with "change account picture")
Go to the top right, move your cursor down and click the gear, then click "Change PC Settings".
A tablet edition (like they have done before) and desktop edition would have worked out much better. Do not kill areo and make things look worse than XP. Add features for DESKTOP users.
Aero is still there, just called something else. The normal desktop is also still there, and (as shown in my screenshots) there are tons of new features for the desktop.
Also, "Tap here to x" REALLY? NON-tablet users being told to tap, wow. Microsoft makes me start to like Mac OS....
Tap/click, same thing.

As explained in the OP, go to the top right of the screen, move down to the gear, click it, click power and choose "shut down".
However note that this is not a full "power off" state and is more or less S4 sleep/hibernate. There is no way to get a full "power off" state unless you flip the switch on the back of your PC to cut power.
If something requires a restart, only a restart will work since it does power cycle the machine and clears the RAM/etc. since a shut down is just a hibernate/S4 sleep.
Also to see "all apps" you must right click to bring up a giant thing with one tiny bit of it in the corner used?
I'm pretty sure this is customizable but I am not sure how. I've seen other people with different things pinned to it such as control panel, explorer, network sharing center, etc.
Meh, it doesn't look like the performance is much better except for startup time. I've got an SSD so that won't really make a big difference for me. I'll wait to see how much better Piledriver performs between Windows 7 and Windows 8. If it's not a huge difference I think I'll pass on Windows 8.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.

Well I was not really expecting anything amazing the start up times make a huge difference on my laptop.
I think it will make a fair difference I think its the reason AMD delayed PD that and to get some better clocks.

Is battery life improved with Windows 8 as well? I've got a netbook and I'm still trying to figure out how to best configure it for a long battery life with still decent performance.

Well my video drivers had to be hacked to work with Win8 I know the new driver deal is supposed to allow improved battery life.
But even with the hacked video drivers it seems to be a tiny bit better then 7 probably due to the less amount of background processes.

How much would my battery life probably be improved if I swapped out the HDD for an SSD? I've though about it and I won't be able to upgrade it now, but it's something for me to think about.

Well most power consumption is the screen but I think having the SSD would help even if its a little power but over time it adds up.
Once I get a SSD I will probably do a small test to fine out. I was thinking about this just the other day too.

Okay. Mostly I've just lowered the brightness down and disabled aero as well as just keeping everything clean with CCleaner, defragging, etc. The problem is my netbooks an HP and it's battery life indicator doesn't seem very accurate. It will usually say 2 hours at startup and then it might jump up to 8, and then 4, and so on. Is there an application that more accurately displays the batter life and possibly has added options to further increase battery life?

Must every post provide some deep insight to the topic at hand? Is that the only posts that matter? Seriously?
I post I will not get Windows 8, because, believe it or not, I'm not going to get it. I don't feel the need to expand on it and so I did not.
You could have said at least for x reason or something rather then say I am not getting it and leaving. This thread has been for discussion of why some of use dislike it or like it.

I simply do not like the interface. I do not feel like getting used to Metro, not saying it is bad, but for my personal preference I do not have any desire to upgrade.
I always used hibernate on my laptop with 7 due to needing it for classes. It is faster at coming from sleep too.
But ya I see your point.
To be honest that is one thing I rather hate. f I wanted to sleep/hibernate, I would do that. When I want to fully power my computer down for one reason or another, that is what I want to do.
....... Actually, wait.
How will this affect hardware upgrades?
Since you aren't starting from a clean boot, hardware changes/driver changes are going to be a pain in the ass, no?
Say I change the 8GB of RAM to 4GB due to a dead stick, and swap an AMD card for Nvidia. IIRC hibernate does not react well to hardware changes.
I think both Nvidia and AMDs drivers restart Win8 in a clean boot I have had no issue with AMDs I think its a fair assumption Nvidia does this also.
I will try swapping out my ram tomorrow see what happens.
I am geniunely curious.
Since it is a hibernate, say you were using all your RAM and it writes 8GB to disk, then boots back up and puts it back in the 4GB of RAM. What will happen?
Of course, maybe MS thought of this already and only the OS is written to disk when it hibernates.
.......... But wait, that also means you can't boot directly into another OS if you "shut down" via 8, you'd need to boot 8 back up, restart, then choose an OS.

Some of the benchmarks were kinda flawed using different versions of programs ect.

Since 8's "shut down" is hibernate/S4 sleep, when you start it back up compared to waking 7 from hibernate the speed is about the same.
From a clean boot/power cycle it will be a bit slower than a fresh 7 install.
