Pretty much what the above have said, an i3 + HD7770/6850 would be sufficient. 8GB of RAM will be more than enough for what you need, but you could drop the speed to 1333MHz.

Actually... Phenom II overclock a lot worse than FX and i5/i7. And while it is outdated, that doesn't mean its bad. http://www.anandtech...duct/289?vs=102
i3 is slightly better in most cases, but Phenom X4 has 4 cores. And 4 cores is a lot better than 2.

Each of the two cores on the i3 are far more powerful than the four slow cores on the Phenom. For gaming, an i3 is a much better choice. Also keep in mind that you have 4 threads, just like the Phenom. The only difference is two of them aren't quite as powerful as the other two.

Far more powerful. No. More powerful. Yes.
Ok look at this:
So i3 is slightly better than X4. And that's not the only review that shows it.
Is it better to have 4 real cores
OR
2 real cores that perform slighly better, and 2 virtual cores that perform a lot worse than real ones
?
1. I said "And that's not the only review that shows it."
2. CPU dependent games are exactly showing the potential of a CPU.....
I probably worded that wrong. I should've said that it can utilize more cores than the average game.
And of course there's more than one review that show it. They're all games that require more cores. *Even a game that requires more cores still runs better on the i3, just by slightly*
Im still goig to stick to the i5, just for the future if a game comes out that the i3 wouldnt be able to handle.... how much better is the i5 vs the i3?
I would be wanting to play skyrim and higher end games...
I might get a build going, we'll see if I have time.
Phenom II's are kind of outdated by this point, the i3 would be better.
...but the Phenom II's overclock nicely.

AND... Phenom overclocks, i3 doesnt.
You're using Starcraft, a game that is dependent on CPU far more than other games. Games like Skyrim will play far better on the i3.
Are you reading between the lines?
