They say there is no such thing as a stupid question, this thread proves that statement wrong.
I don't really find questions stupid. Sometimes I go back and think, "wow, before I knew about computers I might ask that". It's hard to call them stupid when at one point all of us didn't know about computers.

I use to think that RAM was installed in the PCI expansion slot... that was almost 2 years ago
Ignorance is not stupidity; the choice to remain ignorant is.
Nice quote, but that really only applies to people who wish to apply themselves to a subject and not learn it. For the average person who just wants a working computer, it is not too stupid.
"I caught a virus... did I get it from my email?" I check his download history only to find that he had about seven viruses downloaded from a very... erotic and sensual site. His email was a week before that. My responce, " O////////////////////////////////////////////////o Uhm... sure...."

Why hello there sir... look into my eyes, and then... you shall see... the end. ~ Quote from Enderman.
When I talk about PCs with my friends the first question they come up with is "How much memory you got?!?" But they think HDD storage capacity is called memory... so I'm confused and I reply 8GB, and they are like "lol that is nothing".. then i gotta explain to them that they mean to say HDD storage capacity and not RAM memory. They also call the whole computer (case + hardware in it) "CPU", so sometimes they say "Did you open the CPU" and I'm like "wtf, why would you open the CPU? Remove it's IHS?? what for?" but then I notice they meant opening my case, and then I also gotta tell them the CPU is a little "square" of the size of a stamp... not the whole case lol. I'm so facepalming on those moments

Ever find it funny how we live in a world centered around technology but no one knows how it works. And then schools teach kids about macs saying they are the future when in reality its Linux and windows./help
Linux is actually evolving quickly now ... everything Windows builds leads up to it. Which is why Epic Rap Battle's personification of Linux was a good choice ((Hal 9000)).

i know but when it makes up of about 90% of servers,
i don't exactly agree, but it is ironic that i use my main computer (a linux one) to run a server.
anyway, on topic:
well, my friend asks all sorts of stupid questions, along the lines of:
"would it be possible to use my 8year old computer to run a bukkit server while playing minecraft?"
"I don't like linux, because it isn't mac"
"can i run this python program with my Java compiler?"
"How much RAM is required to run minecraft?" (note - he means ram and ram only. So he probably doesn't know a CPU exists)
But what really annoys me is that when i answer him, he crosses his arms and acts like he already knew that, and sometimes he answers in a way that makes him look even more stupid(e.g. Insists that herobrine is real, even though i print off every single class from the src code and shove it in his face)

That's not a quote. Unless it's just coincidental that someone else said it.
And it is applicable pretty much anywhere, but more so in learning environments.

I'm fairly certain that's how all technologies are. Do you think everyone in the early 1900s were mechanics just because automobiles was the emerging technology?
FYI, technology is a horribly ambiguous word. It's only colloquially defined as relating to computers, but it isn't exclusive.

Technology is anything that is created to make life easier.
Well most of you wont get this unless you're familiar with traktor, but...
"Hey are you remixing songs?" and "Cool are you making music right now?"
Don't know about you people but to me that's pretty dumb. Traktor is for mixing music, it's possible to do live remixes in it as well but at the time it was very clear that I wasn't doing any kind of remixing. *nerd snort*

Stuff like this happens to me all the time, except I'm surrounded my non-techies most of the time so whenever I try to correct them I just get yelled at and told I'm an idiot.

Linux=servers
windows=main grunt work
OSX=LOL
Linux can do more than server work. Great for cheap workstations.

Yes. I will amend my previous statement:
Technology is often used incorrectly, and the definition could be ambiguous for some people.
