Don't forget the new TXAA which has the performance impact of 1xMSAA and the looks of 4x or 8x
TXAA? I think you mean FXAA, but correct me if I'm wrong. If that's what you're talking about, then I would have to agree that it is also a huge improvement for Nvidia.

I think FXAA already existed and TXAA is the new thing.
" Anti-aliasing smoothes out jagged edges but can be demanding on framerates. FXAA is a new antialiasing technology that produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal performance impact. And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel.
The second mode, TXAA, is an in-game option that combines MSAA, temporal filtering, and post processing for even higher visual fidelity."

Huh. Now I'm regretting buying an AMD graphics card lol. Oh well, I didn't really feel like waiting for the GTX 660 and GTX 660Ti.

Except you forget AMD cards can use FXAA but I have no idea why you would want to it looks like ass.
It honestly looks like a blur filter rather then AA
MLAA 2.0 has a performance loss but in games like skyrim where my CPU is the bottleneck I lose nothing.
FXAA has to be built into the game too MLAA can be enabled in any game as long as you have an AMD gpu.
TXAA I have yet to see in a video game so I call BS on any claims made.
The 670 is a **** deal
For 40$ more you could get the 7970 and beat the gtx 680 in performance in most games.
GPU is not bad, in some/most cases its better than the 670.
Benchmarks please? People tend to throw around things like this a lot.
If you are going to state the 7950 is better than the 670 in *most* cases, you need to prove it. The 670 gives about 11 FPS higher than the 7950 is MOST situations.
I actually use my ram to the max... but now I see why most of the people whom uses an AMD processor gets viciously attacked on a forums. But I will take the chance on my motherboard, and as far as the 7970 went... I was planning on getting it, though right now it appears a good number of manufactures were having problems at the time when developing it, and the good ones priced near 400, to 500.
I will just overclock my 7950 later on when it comes to it.

Why hello there sir... look into my eyes, and then... you shall see... the end. ~ Quote from Enderman.
Not sure where you guys are getting "$40" for upgrading the 7950 to 7970, more accurately it's about $100.
Because the 7970 is at its lowest price (For the worst manufacturer) $440. The lowest price for the 7950 is $340.
You can get a GTX 670 for a good $50 - $100 cheaper than the 7970.
For top of the line cards on the 7970 It's $480 to $530. This is the price point for the GTX 680. You are moving WAY beyond his budget at this point.
I'm PUSHING his budget by saying 670. Going about $60 past it. With the 7970, you are going even further. Reaching $150 over his current budget. A 7970 would bottleneck his rig at the CPU.
But depending how seriously he renders, I'd say go with the 7950. I wasn't aware the GTX series was that bad at it!
@Tangletail; AMD Processors get attacked because for a mere $40-$50 more you get a much better performance, and people don't understand why you wouldn't.

Uhh there is actually quite a few people here who have AMD cpus and the time I recall being called a fanboi was by you calling be biased towards Intel.
Wolf got attacked because he was being biased heavily so and you for the same reason.

It is 40$ from the 670 to the 7970 and worst manufacture uhh what are you on XFX is one of the best if not tied for best.
The 7970 is 440$ not 500 AMD has stopped making the release version of the 7970 soon the GE will be the only one for sale and its the same price as the original 7970 I have no idea where you pulled the 500$ price out of.
Oh wow, I didn't notice that. I was wondering why I couldn't find any other the GE 7970's...In that case, there really is little point going for a GTX670. I shall edit the spreadsheet then...
Also, the MSRP of the 7970 GE was originally $500, so I just assumed it was still that way.
Well its not a "true" GE its XFX factory overclocked version but it runs at the same clocks as the GE so I consider them the same.
I dunno Christoi, your charts don't calculate for the superior GTX drivers! Mainly CUDA.
Yes Cuda too bad the 6 series sucks at compute and AMD uses an open standard OpenCl and a lot more programs support it then Cuda.
Man only if a company bought ATI and they had massive driver improvements sense then.
Actually based on my personal experience only I would say AMD drivers are a lot better then Nvidias drivers because AMDs drivers have yet to kill my GPU fan and cause my GPU to die from heat.
Nvidia will rarely ever update their video drivers from what I have noticed. So far, AMD's drivers is mostly a "one-size fits all" sort of deal which makes it easier for them to maintain all of them. Also, OpenCL is used more often then Cuda, but OpenCL isn't used in plenty of applications for some reason.
Cuda, don't get me wrong, it's pretty powerful, but it's too propriety for my taste. Much like the Nphys that they used to do, and still do. Wonder why not to many games use it... oh that's right... they are trying to make the game playable for all systems and not just Nvidia based systems :I. Though I've seen some amazing projects done with it, none quite compare to a well made OpenCL project.
Eh, for the majority of users the difference is the customization the driver software offers. Most end-users won't even know what OpenCL/CUDA is, and even more won't know what they do/what applications use it.
From my experience, nvidia excels at options for high-end users who like to fine-tune every part of their card. I'm currently running a Radeon 6870 1GB, and I often hit Skyrim-tweaks that are "FOR NVIDIA ONLY" and similar things for other games.
Oh. And Nvidia software has a way better color scheme. Green/Black vs Red/White.
Like. Seriously. Forget benchmarks, forget prices. Color scheme.
All about the colors.
Either way we have beaten this thread to death. Good luck with your build OP, may your blue screens be few, and your overclocks flourish.

AMD in the past had a set to release at least once a month a driver update.
Nvidia on the other hand currently releases only when needed for say bug fixes and when games release.
AMD recently made the announcement that rather then release once a month they will be getting updates out when games release or when they are done with specific features.
A lot more programs are coming out soon I know Lame handbreak and 7zip are working on an OpenCL update.
@Stormcrown please show me one feature for Skyrim that's locked for Nvidia the only games I know that locked features were arkham asylum and hawk2

I do like your reasoning to what to select. Though my case is like... singularity black. Mother board of current choice is... well... singularity black. the only colors are well... the freaking red ram and red fans. I mean... minus the fans... this thing is only going to show red with the lights turned off. So AMD's color scheme gives me something to look at.
But I have yet to see any form of skyrim tweak tailored to Nvidia. Things like SSAO, FXAO, AA, Shaders, and such are supported by everything... and the higher res textures and AA would do better on a AMD (whom now focuses on shoving a metric f*ck ton of video ram in things)

It comes down to who slaps their community, and who gives them a cookie.
New headset is in now. It's quite lovely for a cheap one. Plantronics Gamecom 780. People may have given the headset a bad review, but what had probably happened was that they had installed the headset before the drivers.
One thing I noticed about it is... do not ever have it's volume up more then half way with Dolby Digital on. They will blow your ears out. They are that loud. The surround sound works wonderfully and it makes minecraft one hell of a scary game to play. I only payed 64$ that's including Texas State Retail Tax (.0825) for it. The mic is wonderful as well. Another thing I like about it is that it's open ear.

Dude its 8 cores and like 4ghz what are you talking about.
It also uses an arch that is not properly supported by Windows 7.
Its gaming performance is also pretty pathetic and being a gaming community here we look down on it much harsher then say a forum for people who do render work all day.
Just because something has lots of cores and a high clockspeed does not mean its fast.
The Bulldozer series was hyped to be the killer of Intel CPUs, but when it came out, it flopped like a magikarp on dry land. This is why I will never use an AMD processor for a gaming, workstation, or main desktop build for a very long time. The only chips I like from AMD are their APUs, they are perfect for HTPCs and laptops.

Crysis 2 is about the only game AMD takes massive loses in.
See the AMD cards can run FXAA just fine but it still looks like crap.
on 670 vs 7950 the 670 is flat out faster but its more expensive and the 670 is priced just below the 7970 a card that destroys it.
Not to mention he said he will be doing render work.
Nvidias compute performance on the 6 series line sucks.
I am not sure what he uses but luxmark is pretty common.
I will just overclock my 7950 later on when it comes to it.
