Hey, as some of you know, my old beefy computer broke. I managed to fix it, but it is lagging and freezing. Now I want to replace it. I'm looking for computer specs that could handle my games in Max graphics, listed above:
Minecraft
Roblox
Blockland
Team Fortress 2
Portal 2((Not really my game, but I plan in getting it))
Garry's Mod((Same as above))
RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Driver: San Francisco
Oh, and I'm not saying I'm looking for somewhere to buy a computer that can handle these games, I'm asking which computer specs could handle the games.
i5 2500k and a 6850 with 8gb ram will run all of them maxed out very comfortably, and also future games.
If you wish to waste more money than you have to, go with his options.
Otherwise, go with an AMD x4 945, a 260GTX and 8GB RAM seeing as it's cheap as **** nowadays. (Don't forget to get a DDR3 mobo, DDR2 ram is both slower and still more expensive ~_~)
I've also realized that anything over 6GB of RAM is also an overkill and is RARELY used unless you're a high-end developer.
These specs should run your listed games maxed out no problem.
Why are you recommending obsolete items? They don't even sell those any more...
I read the list he posted, did you?
Do any of those support Dx11, please do tell.
A fancy, (so far terrible utilized feature), would be a waste of at least 50$ depending on the GPU.
>945 x4 phenom obsolete.

Obsolete is a Voodo graphics card. Obsolete is a sempr0n.

Erm yes, everything he posted should support DX11 fine, IIRC. If not he could get the 7000 series card of the same genre.
Even still how is that a waste? Cards in that price range are excellent for the price.

The phenoms ARE obsolete. They do not even manufacture them anymore and they are now two processor generations behind.
Please keep your posts constructive.
I hate to rain on your parade, but a 945 will destroy an i3.
I am sorry but no, benchmarks say otherwise. Especially ivy bridge's i3.
I would like to remind everyone to please stay on topic. I've cleaned up this thread a little.
OP, the build recommended in the first reply would be more than enough. ^^ If you need something cheaper with similar power or need recommendations on parts tell us and we'll get a build together.
Ok, thanks. But I'm not a pro in computer specs, so I don't know what "i5 2500k" and a "6850" are. Mind explaining? :l
Also, I plan on creating a 12 or 20-slot Minecraft Server. Will these settings the first replier suggested handle it?
The i5 2500k would be the processor and the 6850 would be the video card. These are parts used in building your own computer. In addition you would need a hard drive, power supply, case, RAM, and a motherboard. Possibly also a DVD drive.
As for the server, this would depend more on your internet connection than your PC. As the above poster said:
Yup, pretty much any computer with more than 1.5 GB of RAM will easly run a 20 slot server. Your internet connection is what you'll have to worry about.
Prebuilts are not ideal at all but if you are absolutely 100% in need of one we can probably scrounge something up.
If those are the games you want to play, don't pick the 2500k. Pick almost any 100$ AMD processor and you will run them all fine, that way you already save 100$, you can also get 4gb RAM instead, of 8gb. You don't need 8gb most of the time. (ram is very cheap though)
The HD6850 is great though, good price/performance .
Oh, it will be much harder than what I thought. What else I will need to change in my computer?
Also, a guy said to avoid AMD processors.
AMD processors, yes, however the AMD APUs are pretty decently powerful.
Unlike the AMD processors that fall behind the intel equivalents, the APUs have an integrated graphics chip that is pretty powerful for what it is. For lower budget builds, there is simply no competition.
When we say avoid AMD processors we usually mean any midrange or high end build.
For the games you listed on max graphics, an APU may not be powerful enough however a low end graphics card should be fine.
What are your current computer's specs? (if you can't find them, download speccy and upload a screenshot of the first page).

Well, that's a tad exaggerated. What he means is that currently, no AMD processors are able to provide the price/performance ratio that Intel does. If you already have an AMD processor, it isn't bad or anything, but if you're looking to buy a new processor, go with Intel.

Don't get surprised, it's a **** computer.
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic
Processor: AMD Processor model unknown 2.70GHz
Memory RAM: 894 MB
System Type: 32bits

APUs are an exception.
Yea, I used to have an Intel Pentium 4 Processor, and my comp was MUCH better than now. But that was 2008, so everything was awesome.
Heck, it took me almost 23 minutes to open up chrome and then this thread, and then post. Stupid slow computer.

That's an i5 2500k.
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814102908
That's a 6850.
Also, most certainly.
Also, unless your current mobo supports 1155, you're also going to need to get this.

Go download 'Cpu-z' and post your 'mainboard' tab specs.

I don't plan to buy the computer right now, so it's no matter posting the budget now. I might have $350, but later I may have just $125.

Sorry, but you won't be able to get a decent gaming computer for $350, you will need to save up to raise your budget to atleast $500.
Edit: here is a build for $460, I'm not familiar with AMD stuff as much as intel, so if anything is bad, someone correct me

You could drop the A6 to an A4, but the higher price is worth the two cores in my limited experience.
I accidentally didnt permalink, I already deleted the build. I wont bother putting back together again, because it was more or less like yours.
The $350 was an example. Heck, it will take much more until I can afford one.
