I thought it was nothing past 1333 had a worthwhile increase?
Nothing over 1333mhz matters for Intel I5 desktop processors because the memory controller is only rated 1333mhz the 1600 sometimes have 1fps differences in some games.
AMD processors on the other hand love the extra frequencies.

2x4GB + 2x2GB = 12GB. A good compromise between 8GB and 16GB. There's no reason for it not to work.
The mobo is cheap, has a lot of features, and is hackintosh-compatible.
Monitor-wise, yeah, I like IPS too much to go back to TN. Some panels are very close to TN in terms of response time (6ms vs 2ms).
I thought it was nothing past 1333 had a worthwhile increase?
I see then. And I see your view of the Ram, and it should work well.
Thought that motherboard looked familiar, remember seeing it from Tony's recommended builds. I am using the one I have now "in sig", works very good with 10.7.3. Installed vanilla without needing DSDT or anything.
I personally cannot bother with IPS, the one I have now is a close as I could get without breaking bank. Yet it isn't IPS, but color reproduction is very awesome. Despite clocking all the way to 1Ms in mean time.
Indeed you are right about 1333Mhz being the best DDR3 speed. It has been proven anything above 1333Mhz you see no real world performance. 1066 is bare minimum of course, but you notice a difference in real world performance when going to 1333Mhz.
I can give that system a 9/10. Unsure of quality of the SSD is why.
How good is the 8200 compared to like the Pentium g620 or an i3? Also I think it has like a 220 PSU. I would even be happy if I had intel hd 200 lol better than the g45

I built my own computer in 2012, Specs are: Intel i3-2100, Amd radeon 5570, 8GB of ram, 500GB Hard drive, Antec One case, Z77A G43 Motherboard, OCZ 600W PSU. Windows 7 64 Bit.
Also I have a youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc9Bi9r4UPZbAWyuRKBJeoA
I like to play games on steam like Garry's Mod and robocraft.
The iMac I currently use is 12ms, 6ms will be more than good enough for me. Once again, I really like IPS, it's amazing tech.
12ms will give out some screen ghosting and maybe some with 6ms. 5ms is pretty much the clear zone and 2ms and 1ms (some monitors have 1ms) are the best

220W PSU????
Multi treading stuff, the 8200 seems to win in Anandtech benchmarks, but in gaming and others the i3 kills the 8200 by a LOT

Good thing I bought the i3. Got it for $90! at microcenter. Already got my Ram(from my bro) power supply (600W OCZ Modular) and my hard drive. Now to buy the video card and motherboard

Get newer ram. Get 8gb and @ 1333MHz. Your ram is way slow.

I'm going to be building a whole new pc this summer. Also my hard drive is at like 56C
Ok. Then you have to get Windows again, and a better case, since your components are way old for a modern case.

8.5/10 Overkill PSU, and motherboard too. Msi Z77A-GD55 or 65 (maybe 45), are you're best bet, but the seasonic psu is really great too , just little over the top by around 230W
Cheaper ram is must really. 60$ for 8 GB of ram is a lot

The build you had was 750W.
A gtx 670 takes less than a 680.
And the 680 takes less than 520W to power an i7 16gb ram, 2tb hdd, ssd, gtx 680.

Sound card is a waste of money really, when using USB headset it makes 0 usage because they have built in sound cards which sound better imo. Even then on board now a days is just as good.

This one had a crappy Realtek on that, well I hated it.
@Flutterwry I'd say a 7.5/10. The 5770 isn't a bad card, but getting a little dated (though I don't have room to complain, I have a 5870) and as for everything else, looks pretty thought out. Nice build =)
As for me:
Intel Core i5 2400 3.1ghz
12gb DDR3 1333mhz Patriot RAM
Radeon HD 5870 1gb
600w Corsair PSU
250gb 7200rpm HD (needs upgrading, just salvaged this from an old comp til I can afford a bigger one)
Thermaltake V4 Black Edition Case
Darn I forgot the mb. It's an Asus MicroAtx H61, but I don't remember the exact model.
Monitor is I-Inc 1440x900 19inch and an old Compaq 15 inch 1024x768 for a duel monitor setup.
Mouse: Corsair M60
Keyboard: Old Compaq keyboard

These pics are a little dated, as you only see one RAM module in these pics. I now have 1 4gb and 1 8gb
7/10
Graphics card isn't the best and 2400 is abit old.
Mine:
Case: Xigmatek Asgard Black
CPU: I5 2500k OC'd @4.5 GHz
Cooler: Arctic cooling freezer 11
Mobo: Asus p8z68-v LE
RAM: 8GB G.Skill
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti
HDD: 1Tb Seagate Barracuda
PSU: Corsair 600w
OS: Windows 7 Premium
Keyboard: Razer Arctosa
Mice: Abyssus
Monitor: Asus VS247H
The 2400 is only one level down from your 2500k.
9.5/10 because I feel like criticizing your razer keyboard
9/10 or 10/10 because you have a i7 2600k which is very awesome. RAM is nice too.
My build (Not built yet):
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 6670
RAM: 4GB DDR3
Mobo: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
PSU: 450W
HDD: 500GB SATA-II HDD
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
6/10, get a i3 2100 or a Pentium G860 and a H67 motherboard, much better performance and leaves an upgrade path, GPU is also pretty weak
here's mine
AMD Phenom II X4 955 (all stock speeds, no 212)

Still looking for a job, still tweaking the parts list.
CPU — I don't really want to go down to an i5, the 8 threads are extremely useful.
Cooler — Cheap and decent? (I gave up on the whole water cooling thing for now)
Mobo — Cheap, hackintosh-compatible, plenty of features.
RAM — 12GB is a good compromise, 8GB is too cramped for me and I don't really need 16GB.
SSD — Still looking around, but this one is (very) cheap, and has good reviews. I suppose I could use this instead? Any input on if the loss of 30GB is worth the $16 saved?
HDD — There's nothing cheaper, and I need 2TB.
Video Card — I was going to go for a 2GB 6870, but after doing some research, I realized that 2560x1440 would do a LOT better with a 580 instead. Unfortunately, it's twice the price.
Case — Still looking for a better one, this one is over-the-top in terms of price.
PSU — This should be more than enough.
OOD — No issues here.
Monitor — A placeholder, I'll most likely get one of those Korean monitors. From what I've seen, they're worth the risk.
Keyboard — Maybe I should find a cheaper one with this key style.
Question! Is a 2GB 6870, a 560ti 448 cores, a 570, or a 1.5GB 580 the best price-performance card for this resolution?
