Really? Are you able to use a vanilla OS X ISO? If so, you should tell me how, because the only way I can find to run OS X inside VirtualBox is using modified ISOs.
The OSX 10.7.3 Lion retail is well retail. Has no modfications at all. However I do have to use Hackboot, but the OS itself is vanilla.
One of my biggest theories of why many uninformed people like Macs is because people are dumbasses and always go with the cheapest solution and with PC's you can go as low as $250 but when you have a Mac you are going to have to pitch in at least $1000. Obviously the $1500 computer, even though it is very overpriced, will beat the $400 one and they don't think on paying even $1000 on a decent PC and getting so much more.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm back from my eternal slumber of 2 or 3 months. A long-ass time.
Oh boy, visual basic. I can barely contain my excitement.Not.
Honestly. I find nothing wrong with the Mac OS itself. Its simple, intuitive, and would use it over windows any day, except most games and bunch of other programs I use are stuck on windows. On the other hand, Macs themselves ARE overpriced, especially for the specs you are getting for 1-2k. For ex. Their cinema display. 1k for a 13MS monitor. lolno. The Macbook Air I have sitting next to me, I deeply regret buying, just because I could have gotten something way better for 1600$ and slapped OSX on it, but as a developer, I was kind of left with no choice
Honestly it's just the price like most down to earth civil minded people will say. It's a great OS based off of UNIX background so it is a lot safer and faster. But if you're already good with computers why not just have a Windows Linux dual boot.
Desktop wise I could never see myself spending that kind of money on a computer. I do hope someday soon I can afford a Macbook Pro.
I have yet to find any other PC laptop with that high quality of a design in my opinion.
But yea there's no reason other than price and fanboyism...

That monitor is priced at about $900 by the majority of retailers, and the Dell monitors with the same specs cost exactly the same. That's one part that's not really overpriced at all.

Implying Dell does not overprice as is. Cough, Alienware "Or tbh just any Dell brand products..."
As if there is any good AVs for OSX as is, the last I checked, it was like norton and other crap brands. Even saw ClamAV "complete S***!"

Sophos and ClamXav are decent and free.
Of course they overprice, but everyone selling those monitors charges the same (with the exception of HP's barebones version, or the $100 factory reject wholesale korean ones).

Clam is a no no. The windows rogue anti viruses are most based on Clam's source code. The AV was decompiled, and thus converted into rogue AVs and has been since.
Sophos, I cannot really say anything on it honestly.
As for monitor, the 13MS+ or as many call it, uses non TFT panels. These non TFT can reproduce image quality and colors insanely better then a TFT, they are not meant for gaming, high motion based videos "or HIGH FPS tbh, 25FPS to 30 is best". They are meant for photoshop, or digital photo work or artists and high color and image quality relying things.
This is why they are expensive "justifying your statements". Because they uses non TFT panels, they are not as in such high demand. The price is driven up like that.

The barebones ones (HP/Korea) manage around 6ms, so best of both worlds, right?

Ah, sorry then. I overlooked that part of your post. I am unsure if slower IPS is better or faster. Personally, going to look this up myself to see.
6ms IPS vs 16ms IPS, which is better ?
In terms mac, still does not justify prices.
Jesus. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't respond!
Response time is (typically) measured in the time to go from grey to white (or black?) to grey. The cinema display has a response time (most likely GTG) of 12ms. The Dell U2711 has a GTG time of 6ms (but I doubt that this figure is accurate). The barebones HP has a GTG of 12ms. The Korean monitors have a GTG of 6ms. A typical TN panel has a GTG of 2ms.
The HP is ~$750 (and does NOT have a scaler or more than two inputs afaik). Apple and Dell sell theirs for around $900, which both have scalers and multiple inputs. The typical Korean one is sold for $350 shipped, and costs $100 wholesale.

And I do know wtf I am talking about, never judge me on that. Just FYI, that is the sure fire way to **** me off. Dont do it. Normally I am calm, but I respond to what I know.
There is two types of response times, black to white and grey to grey. Anything above/or 6ms, is normally black to white. Anything below, is normally grey to grey. Tbh, I have yet to see any grey to grey above 5ms. If so, they are for special only.
Cause something or someone is lying about "IE that Dell U2711" it being grey to grey. That does not reproduce color efficently or as clear.

You obviously don't. If you're getting pissed off/offended from that comment, then I'd suggest logging off of the internet and never returning.
Let me post proof about all of these response times, and let you be the judge.
Also, all monitors mentioned here (with the exception of the TN one) are IPS, and should all beat any TN monitor in color accuracy, regardless of response times.

That was a very on-topic, mature, intelligent discussion. I learned that Hackintoshes do seriously exist, and I now strive to build one (thanks guys ).
Many great points were made, and to sum it up into an unbiased conclusion of the ideas provided so far would be:
Most people don't like Apples overpricing for the brand name and sleek case
OS is personal preference
Apple uses slightly outdated graphics cards and usually has lower VRAM
Most people don't like Apple's DRM
Prebuilt computers will never equal a custom built
Macs and Windows PCs are in most aspects are close to equal (excluding price and customization)
So in conclusion of the comments based to far, it is all personal preference based. If anyone can ask a mod to lock this thread, that would be great. Apparently the thread should live on.

Avast! has a mac branch, the problem is most of the users don't know that mac antivirus exists because they think it doesn't have viruses

I guess Avast is only one tbh. Majority though I am unsure how effective AVs on MAC are since how it is.

If they use TFT panels, they are low quality crap. If they do not use TFT panels "IPS for example", then they are a different story.
Did you read my posts? Yes, they are IPS, just without a OSD or scaler.

I'd say the price is accurate.
