Not all macs overheat, however many do. The macbook pro and ipad get extremely hot, as well as imacs, due to the fact they don't have good airflow at all, if any.
And viruses/malware is used interchangeably. Don't be an asshole about it.
Oh and look at this: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Mac-OS-X-Malware-Sophos-Trojan-Flshplyr,15438.html
1 in 5 macs harbors malware.
And did you see that recent thing where over 600k macs were infected with a pretty bad bug?
And windows only has more viruses because of more market share. Once macs start to get a big chunk, like they are now, they will get more viruses(or malware, whatever the **** you want). And PCs only get viruses if the user is retarded.
I have come to the conclusion you don't actually know anything about what the hell we're talking about, or sources. I guarantee a properly functioning Apple product will not overheat to the point of damage or burning it's user.
You realize that source is an anti-virus company right? The statistic is probably skewed, not including the fact that that is only people who use that anti-virus, a very unreliable source to state anything as significant as you are, after all, everyone who uses that anti-virus could be the people who are the Yes-button-happy people.
a custom built car is usually more powerful and cheaper, but the interface will never be as nothing because nothing was explicitly made to work together (unless you make your own ie. your own OS)
I don't think you understand how computers work. If you are building a computer correctly, the only issues you'll have are failures that can happen in any computer, EVEN Macs, like DOA CPU's. The Windows ( or GNU/Linux or Mac) Operating System would not function any differently than if a major OEM had made it.
and a standard pre-built car is usually made to be cost efficient and user friendly, companies such as Toshiba or Acer would fit into this category
No, they aren't meant to be cost-efficient, they are made to make the OEM money. If I were to purchase the exact same parts from Newegg or similar as those parts from Dell's newest desktop, I would save money (OFC it costs Dell less, as they buy in bulk). Again, the OS and function would be exactly the same.
however a luxury vehicle will always be more expensive because you are not only paying for the parts, but for the expertise to assemble and the knowledge to make every part work together.
Macs have no 'expertise' put into them (excluding case design, I suppose?). They are made by sweatshop workers in China (as with almost all major OEMs), all of which have no formal training in making computers. Often times, they use subpar components, such as power supplies, and have terrible quality.
Edit: Most parts or upgrades for luxury cars usually come from the manufacturer, and are required to be installed by the manufacturer (unless you don't want your warranty).
That goes with ALL prebuilt computers. However, the main difference here is that only certain components will work in Mac OS computers, in fact Apple has certain procedures in place that will make the computer useless without it's original parts.
OP; I wouldn't dislike Macs if they cost similarly to other prebuilt PC's and didn't do scummy things like hardware lockdown. The OS isn't that great IMO, but I don't have a problem with it.

I don't know what the bottom of their computers look like, but knowing Apple, they probably have chosen looks over ventilation, and my guess is that very few ventilation holes exist, meaning that overheating is more likely to be induced. That's just common sense: no air holes=no air. I also don't know much about OS X antivirus software (other than the fact that majority of Mac users don't have one) but I can tell you that if antivirus software (or anything else for that matter) is free, then no reason exists as to why you should skew the statistic. The company loses nothing if someone doesn't buy it, as no chance to make money existed in the first place.

This was an analogy, it may not be 100 percent perfect, and I definitely know how a computer works. Windows does function differently with different hardware, there may be some incompatibilities (not often), that the manufacturer forget or intentionally excluded.

I should have phrased that better, I meant they were cost-efficient to the manufacturer, not the consumer.

Most components are installed through machines, and the people who install some components by hand must be good at it with all the practice and all (CHILD LABOUR IS NOT FUNNY!)

Custom computers are very easy to customize because most parts will work with them (see, I said it) and aren't full of the **** Apple piles on to make sure no one tampers with their own computer, because after all, who wants to fix something if you don't know exactly how to do it (one of the few things I have against Apple).
Also, tomshardware is among the most trusted sites to us computer guys.
I didn't see that site when I posted it; but if skewing the statistics makes more people go to your website (with ads) your still making money. (The software is not free by the way, it just has a trial offer).
Edit: My iMac's bottom looks like someone rolled something (symetrically) filled with nails over it (it doesn't look shabby though, it was a machine).

Windows functions differently with different hardware, but so does every other OS. It will affect compression times, how well Aero runs with other programs on, and everything else. But, every copy of Windows 7 and every other OS is exactly the same at the core of that OS.
Which is why building your own is better. It's cost efficient to you and NOT the manufacturer.
Ever heard of Foxconn? They have the highest suicide rate amongst it's workers, and probably use child labor as well.
That's not true. Often, you need to replace PSU's, cases, processors, GPU's, pretty much everything but the HDD and maybe the Optical Drive in order to make it work. Most often, they will skimp down on one part (usually PSU) and put in an ok CPU, ok GPU, and sell it. If someone needs to replace it, they most often will need to replace more than the part they intended to replace.
Prebuilt computers are very easy to customize because most parts will work with them
What?
Prebuilt computers/Macs and parts you use to build your own from, say, newegg all use the exact same hardware from the exact same companies and brands, oftentimes even the same model numbers. Not even the factories they are made in are different.
Ever heard of Foxconn? They have the highest suicide rate amongst it's workers, and probably use child labor as well.
I'm going to bed, but I thought I might as well correct this.
The suicide rate at Foxconn is actually much, much lower than the Chinese national average. The quality of work for Foxconn's Apple lines is supposed to be better than at the rest of the company.
Let us also not forget this list of other major tech companies that use Foxconn, and that don't get independently and publicly audited like Apple does.
Acer Amazon Cisco Dell HP Intel Microsoft Motorola Mobility Nintendo Nokia Samsung Sony Toshiba Vizio
Although the number of suicides at the company is large in absolute terms, the suicide rate is still low compared to the rest of China. A journalist from ZDNet even concluded that "working at Foxconn dramatically reduces people’s risk of suicide".
The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention says on its web site that the suicide rate in China is 22.23 per 100,000, making it one of the highest in the world.
In 2010, Foxconn's worst year for suicides with a total of 14 deaths, their total employee count was 930,000 people. The suicide rate for Foxconn this year was 1.5 per 100,000 making it well below the national average (around 7% the national average). Even if calculated as if all the employee deaths were from the Shenzhen factory complex alone (to simulate a localised area suicide rate), which in 2010 had a workforce of 450,000, the rate is still well below the national average at 3.11 per 100,000 (around 14% the national average).

1.) Reasonable people will just hate on the price. Reasonable people will know that even if they don't like the OS, that doesn't mean it's crap, because the Mac OS isn't crap. And I can see why people don't like the price.
2.) Gaming. I loved my mac more than my windows machine but even tho I'd like to get another mac in the future, I would always make my gaming machine a windows machine purely for the fact that the majority of games don't seem to want to work on mac.
3.) Bandwagon idiots. They see people say "mac sucks", and those ppl say it for one of the above reasons but don't say it, and the person who sees that post will think "oh it sucks! this guy knows his stuff I'm sure!" and get on the bandwagon without getting their own opinion. This is without a doubt a very large chunk if not the majority of the hate, because it seems to be the same way towards about anything.
personally I love mac I think it's great it's just a bit pricey. is it worth the price? well it depends, on how much you make, and on how much value you put in a dollar. to me, not at the moment as I have no job and even if I did it'd be a small paying one so not only could I not afford it it wouldn't be worth it to spend so much on it when I wouldn't have much to begin with. However say I get a very well paying job of oh idk, $50,000 a year. I would without a doubt get one because not only would I be able to afford it I would be making enough money to make my value in a dollar worth it. But I'd always make sure to keep my gaming machine windows for the reason I stated above, I'd probably just get a Mac laptop for carrying around and casually browsing the web and stuff.
They charge for software updates
They are slow to admit flaws in their products
they are restrictive as to when and if they fix said flaws
they trick stupid people by using meaningless buzzwords (retina display etc)
They portray the unibody design as superior, when ABS/Megnesium is better
they release products without any real market testing
they promote extansive and invasive use of freedom restricting DRM
they charge obscene amount for foxconn hardware in shiny cases
they use free software and contribute back obfuscated code
they blame hardware issues on the user
I have owned two macbook laptops, OH GOD WHAT A FUKAN DISASTER
Laptop #1
Very laggy, often crashes and the os is unstable in general, no applications whatsoever have support for the mac os so I have nothing to do with the computer. Very weak outdated components, broken trackpad on arrival. idles at about 85 degrees cpu temp
Laptop #2
Still laggy and crashes same as laptop #1. Also has a broken trackpad on arrival, has a wrongly assembled monitor, bottom cover peeling off after a few weeks, takes about half a day to charge sometimes, sometimes the battery is dead in about half an hour, it idles at about 85 degrees cpu temp.
Those arent all the problems I had with the two macbooks I owned (same models), but they are the main ones.
Also I did not buy those macbooks (oh god no) they were given for free. I am surprised that people pay $1000 for that ****.
For me, Mac's are only good for the creative. If you want to use a computer for anything that doesn't involve Adobe's creative suite or browsing then go with a PC.
Prices are only comparable because of the overpriced monitor.
Replace that with a korean one and then let's see.
Best monitor at that price and resolution is about $100 cheaper, although I've only checked that on PCPartPicker.
The lowest possible price would then be about $1678, which is quite a bit cheaper than the iMac, but keep in mind that's with rebates and all that.

It's $300-400 for a Korean one.
And I dare say that the Catleaps are better quality than Apple cinema displays.
Looky here: http://www.overclock...nd-catleap-q270
Because no matter how good the os is (no opinion on this), there's no justification for charging $225 for an upgrade from 3 to 6 gb of ram.
Also, they put workstation processors with radeon hd 5000 series graphics cards (pick one or the other -- and update to hardware that's not 2 generations out of date). Not to mention that they're charging $250 for a 5770.

But you can do both of them just as well on a PC...
There is nothing wrong with Mac, Or any other PC.
There are advantages to both and I just think each to his own.
For the most part I prefer Mac because it has a simpler os (In my opinion). But I also run bootcamp which enables me to use all the windows applications I want

ok I have a dell laptop and my mum has a macbook pro my dell overheats but apart from that is perfectly fine my mums mac's harddrive failed and was fixed the mac is younger than my dell so from my point of view they are over priced and have low quality parts
I know of 2 other people who have had the same problem as my mum
Dell isn't that great either. When I get back from school I might post a pic of what happens to it when left in storage [Nothing touching it.]
