Can someone explain what is so terrible about a Mac that whoever thinks they are any good should be brought to there knees and publicly executed on the spot? I don't care about what the haters have to say, I want an intelligent answer. That means not "there the wurst comp everz!"
That was a very on-topic post, and the most mature, intelligent discussion between Mac vs. (Windows) PC I've ever experienced. I learned that Hackintoshes do seriously exist, and I now strive to build one (thanks guys ).
If you have anything resolutionary (see what I did there?) to Change Everything. Again (and there?), post them here!
Many great points have been made, and to sum it up into an unbiased conclusion based on ideas provided so far would be:
Most people don't like Apples overpricing for the brand name and sleek case
The OS is personal preference
Apple uses slightly outdated graphics cards and usually has lower VRAM
Most people don't like Apple's DRM
Prebuilt computers will never be equivalent to a custom built (but we all knew that, didn't we)
Macs and Windows PCs are generally equal in hardware (excluding GPU)
So in conclusion to all points so far, it is all personal preference based. If anyone can ask a mod to lock this thread, that would be great.
Nothing, just the price. If it were priced around a computer with similar specs, then I would really choose a Mac for it's sleek design and OS. But that's not real. lol.
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit | AMD Athlon II X4 635 | 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 | BIOSTAR Group A880GU3 | ASUS VH238 | 1024MB GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Gigabyte) | 313GB Western Digital WDC WD3200AAJB-00J3A0 | TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-H492A | Realtek High Definition Audio

I totally agree. I love the "minimalist with easily accessible info when you need it" OS and the sleek design, the only things I dislike are the inability to customize (which does kind of make sense, but some to a certain degree would be nice (such as the video card)) and the price.
Billed as virus free and high quality. Still gets viruses and has the same quality parts as PCs. Incompatibility with most programs, they have to be made for mac os to work. Hugely overpriced for the hardware you get. Overheat.

and verrry few backwards compatible programs, if a new OS comes out, have fun waiting for program updates
It's the fact you pay so much for the OS. That, and that it's still closed source just like Windows. I prefer Linux, and would use it all of the time if I could get all of the programs that I wanted to run on it. But I can't because Microsoft has created a monopoly.

Wrong, it gets malware (spyware, adware, etc.) a user installs (usually unknowingly), not a virus. I have no idea why you brought that up, anything has to be ported to a different OS, Windows just usually gets it first because most people use the OS. My Mac has never overheated, so I don't know where you're getting that from.
Like I said, OS X only gets malware, a virus is impossible* unless someone is dumb enough to authorize a program to change system files multiple times, which in my mind is an operator error.
* Unless someone finds a way to change the authorization
Anywho, my stance towards Macintoshes is my same stance towards Alienware; you're getting ripped off. If you compare the hardware inside, to what the hardware actually costs, you will find a huge gap.
There is also this air of superiority among SOME Mac users where they think Windows users suck because they get viruses all the time, and they supposedly can never get a virus (which we've known for some time to be false). There really isn't much wrong with OS X.
No active viruses, only a few hundred historical cases of malware/worms, less than a hundred active bits of trojans/malware.
Also, Apple's OS, i.e. OS X, is hardware locked to their computers, i.e. Macintoshes. I'd guesstimate if it wasn't, at least half of anyone who wanted to run OS X, would be running it on a PC they built.
But really, the main reason is how much you're getting ripped off. If Alienware or Apple adjusted their prices to match what the hardware inside actually costed, they'd be getting a lot less hate.
Eh, $220 markup over a comparable Windows build on pcpartpicker on the current iMac isn't bad, but it's fairly crappy for everything else. Apple isn't cheap.

No viruses, a smattering of malware and trojans.
Incompatibility? That's like saying "Hey guys, why won't final cut work on Windows?" or "Hey guys, why can't I install vnstat on a Mac?", or "Hey guys, why can't I install <insert Linux or OSX app here> on Windows?"... Come on, let's have a mature discussion here. Overheating isn't much of an issue, it's rare. Overpricing varies from model to model, but Apple as a whole isn't cheap.
If you've kept up with the news, that Flashback thing infected over 600,000 Macs before Apple released a removal tool several weeks later. It's technically not a virus, but it didn't need any privileges whatsoever to do its nasty work. Also, the newer variant of Flashback ditches asking for your password altogether, and will still do nasty stuff to your Mac.
Last time I checked, the infection levels were far below 100k, and rapidly dropping.

Yeah I forgot about that, but it was also third party software so it doesn't really count.
I also thought I'd point out Windows has an implementation similar to OS X's ask for your password prompt, called UAC.
Because we all know how effective that is. It's not implemented far enough into the OS to do major change, it does stop most poorly written viruses, but any of the better ones passes that quite easily.
I think I can put the cost into an analogy everyone can understand. Mac vs. OS is like a luxury pre-built car vs. a custom built car or a standard pre-built car, a custom built car is usually more powerful and cheaper, but the interface will never be as nothing because nothing was explicitly made to work together (unless you make your own ie. your own OS), and a standard pre-built car is usually made to be cost efficient and user friendly, companies such as Toshiba or Acer would fit into this category, however a luxury vehicle will always be more expensive because you are not only paying for the parts, but for the expertise to assemble and the knowledge to make every part work together.
How did I do?
Edit: Most parts or upgrades for luxury cars usually come from the manufacturer, and are required to be installed by the manufacturer (unless you don't want your warranty).
Not great,
When you build your own PC, you get the right parts and they work together.
Putting together a computer is NOT rocket science.
Generally, if Part A looks like it go into Slot B, chances are it does.

Opinions are like armpits. Everyone has one and some stink, now if someone says your armpits stink it isn't very polite to go rubbing it in their face, it isn't going to make them say yours doesn't stink it'll just make them dislike you and your armpit even more. Remember keep your armpits and opinions respectful.

Yeah, I was talking about when the infection levels were at their peaks. Apple's already released a fix for flaw used. The problem is, the fix won't work on older Macs (ima find the source). Also, the flaw used in Flashback was patched by Oracle in February, but since Apple has their own version of Java, the updates come a bit slower. It's 3rd party software, but it's technically "developed", or at least released by Apple.
Post source please
Yeah, the situation for Java on OSX right now blows chunks.

If you do your research there is no reason why your custom build won't work without conflicts.
I have seen prebuilts (both PC and Mac) that have had retarded pairings of CPU and motherboard.
Hell most of the time a company will just shove an extra 4gb ram and sell it for an extra $600
Just because it is made by a company, does not mean that it is better.

You were intelligent, however like TheRacker, you're not technically right.
Not all macs overheat, however many do. The macbook pro and ipad get extremely hot, as well as imacs, due to the fact they don't have good airflow at all, if any.
And viruses/malware is used interchangeably. Don't be an asshole about it.
Oh and look at this: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Mac-OS-X-Malware-Sophos-Trojan-Flshplyr,15438.html
1 in 5 macs harbors malware.
And did you see that recent thing where over 600k macs were infected with a pretty bad bug?
And windows only has more viruses because of more market share. Once macs start to get a big chunk, like they are now, they will get more viruses(or malware, whatever the **** you want). And PCs only get viruses if the user is retarded.

I'd just to correct one thing. Only 1 in 36 harbor Mac malware, the 1 in 5 figure is for pc malware, which is dormant and waiting to spread. If you use OSX in an environment where you'll be connecting to Windows-based systems, it's always a good idea to have an antivirus to stop the spread of malware that can't harm you buy can harm the connected system.

I'd rather not pull Windows into this, but there are a LOT of RATs for Windows that don't require UAC auth to install.
