My friend finally has the money to get a decent computer and he wants to make sure that he gets a good computer that doesn't fail on him. He is willing to build it himself under the budget of $800. He lives in South Carolina, Newegg is preferred.
He wants to be able to do some screen recordings, multitasking, and semi-intensive gaming. This would include BF3 high to very high 60fps @1920x1080, metro 2033 on high, arma II, and any other new titles coming out at medium to high.
Please post pcpartpicker links and not prebuilts or builder sites. Just saying this now...no Macs no Alienwares.

Asking for to much. Without at least 1200 buck range, you cannot get near what he wants in BF3 and ESP Metro 2033.
Honestly I don't think you can get much better for the price.

BF3 SHOULD be able to be attained with the above build, but metro is not only taxing but poorly optimized so even a $1200 rig probably couldn't get that good of performance.

Ya, a single 680GTX can get that, but it has hiccups here and there in metro 2033. I do not know how well a 560Ti can do in BF3, unless 448 version, but Wolleys build should be fine. Why I erased my build and agree on his.

I get playable framerates with my 560ti on bf3 on ultra, but it is much smoother on high. And that cpu is better than mine, so technically, this build can max out BF3.
You can get a cheaper motherboard and use the money that you save for a better graphics card.

never know what he's going to do in even a year, he could get a 2500k or the Ib equivilent, so may as well et a good board now then upgrade both CPU and motherboard
Yea he plans on getting a 2500k and an aftermarket heatsink later when he has more money, otherwise thank you for the builds. He liked them.
In that case I would definitely go with that one.
The Extreme3 GEN3 supports PCI-e 3.0 as well as Ivy Bridge, and is honestly incredible for it's price. (I should know, I have one as does my girlfriend).

if he plans on getting a 2500k, it may be better to get it now, then either pay more for it, or get the IB one, either way it would be better to spend $100 more now then $220+ more later (what would he do with the i3 after uprading to a 2500k is what i'm getting at)
The fudge are you talking about?! I run Metro 2033 off a GT 430 and a Phenom x4 955 black with medium settings. This is making no sense to me at all.
Lul, running metro 2033 at MAXIMUM settings, on a 430GT, let me know how that works out for you. That is what that guy wanted, it isnt gonna happen honestly at a fluid 60+FPS @ 800 bucks.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

Any cheaper motherboard would have very limited features, and probably not have a good chipset like z68. And a 560ti is plenty.

2 or 3 months.A long-ass time.Oh boy, visual basic. I can barely contain my excitement. Not.

However, amazon lets you choose multiple suppliers to choose from
