Right now, I'm posting from Debian on a virtual machine, and it looks pretty nice. But one problem: I'm such a noob at it. Don't laugh at me, please, but - how do I run an application? I don't want to have to read a full tutorial just to understand how to open an application, so would someone please tell me what to do?
For minecraft its the same way just double click the jar. A lot of linux programs you have to double click a script to launch the application. What are you trying to run maybe we can give some more detailed instructions?
Take a screenshot. I have no idea how Debian looks compared to Ubuntu. They might look the same, but idk.

I'm not sure if it works the same on Debian, but on Mint(or Fedora I can't remember) you had to right click the file and go under some properties option. From there just look around until you find a box that says "run as executable" or something like that and you should be able to run it by double-clicking once you do that.

Nobody's perfect, so neither is Hannah Montana Linux, but it's pretty great.

They all suck. They just suck differently. Sort of like prostitutes.
I have not used Linux in forever but I am 99% sure you just need to open it with the package manager.
You should be able to right click open with package manger or something.
I can't find that option.
I don't think I'm allowed to upload photos.
Use OpenJDK to run it. Debian doesn't come with Sun/Oracle Java pre-installed like Ubuntu and Mint.
If performance isn't very good, install Sun Java and run Minecraft with that instead:
Distros don't really have a "look". They can have a default color scheme, but other than that looks are determined by desktops environments.
also, like said above, you need to install java.
then you would either double click on .jar file (after setting it executable) or right click on it and open with Java
(although a script would be better)
