Hmm....
Opinions on using the 560Ti for graphics and my current 9800GT for Physx?
The PSU should easily be enough (I'd hope, considering the 9800GT will essentially be slightly more than idle) but would having the 9800GT in the second slot reduce the first slot's speed from x16 to x8? The specs for the mobo aren't terribly clear (Asrock Extreme 3 Gen3). It says they're both x16, but in the specs it's x16/x8, x8?
Or is it not even worth it to use such an old card for PhysX?
Just did a bit more research, apparently you would want something no older than a 450 to match a 560Ti for physX. The 9800GT is too old and too slow. :sad.gif:
Oh well, I doubt it would have improved performance THAT much.
Though I wonder if shoving the 9800GT in when, say, rendering a video or w/e would help CAD programs.......?
hrm? maybe you're right juding by the ivy bridge vlc demo thing, but...amd's never been good at the high end cpu stuff.
i mean, the highest end bulldozer cpu is comparable to a 2500k.
AMD did release some benchmark info for trinity. Using my pseudo semi guesstimate math in the AMD 2012 plan thread you can see where I prove piledriver is faster then Sandybridge.

Edit: disregard that, research says not worth it.
I would really recommend my motherboard. ASRock from what I have heard is kind of a hit and miss company. The MSI P67A-G43 (B3) has caused me no problems.
Just my suggestion...

Intel Core i5 2500k @ 3.3Ghz CPU / MSI P67A-G43 B3 Motherboard / G.Skill Sniper 8Gb (2 x 4Gb) RAM / MSI Radeon HD 6850 Cyclone PE/OC Graphics Card / XFX 80+ Bronze 650W Power Supply / Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 7200RPM Hard Drive / NZXT Gamma Classic Case
Interesting, when I get a job, I'm going to have to save for doing this. I bought desktop at 800 bucks, and I'm not sure I got my moneys worth, its a badass computer though. Just not sure it was worth the full 800. So I do want to build my own soon.

I have a 800 dollar build plan (In my signature, also the one I have). It does well, if you want when I get from school, I can link all the parts to Newegg.com

I'm not a fan of Intel though, at all. I'm more a AMD person. Mainly because I've had no problems with it, unlike intel.
My specs are pretty decent... I'll post them here and let you decide if I paid my moneys worth.

We've had 7 people in the last few weeks post builds asking "Can I render my MC video while playing BF3 with this?".
Sigh..... Sometimes I wonder why I am here, lol.
I've given up on reading anything other than the first post on: "Hi, where can me buy computer?"
1 year of that is enough to kill people. I've already had the fatal dose.

I have the 2500k, MSI HAWK 560 Ti, Kingston 2x4GB 1333MHz and HAF 912 too! But I suggest you get a cooler for that 2500k.
Oh will definitely be getting one later on. (Keeping an eye on the corsair water coolers and the nocturna)
I originally was going to go 2400 or 2500 and not OC but when the 2500k is cheaper (even counting gas/etc. for the 50mi trip which evens out to only $11 more) than either option, why the hell not?
TBH, when I read the thread title, I thought that after years of tech support, you were giving up on life. I was already composing a heartfelt speech for why you shouldn't kill yourself, when I read that you were getting a new computer.

I'm silly.
Hahaha, yeah I was wondering why this thread had such high views.
Asrock = :sad.gif: but otherwise very balanced. I personally would have went with msi, asus, or gigabyte, but you're the pro here, not me. Why not wait and get a new gen card or let the higher end ones of today drop in price? A 560ti is fine now, but I expect mine to not be able to run games past medium in the end of next year.

I am very hesitant on the board, TBH. I have no experience with Asrock but there were not many decent mobos in that price range that were in stock.
But looks like a great build though. I would have also waited to see if there would be any price drops like TheRacker was saying, but then again you could be saying that forever since the next line of cards is always around the corner.
Originally I was going to but my current PC is starting to crap out on me (and a bulging capacitor, even though its just 1, is not exactly something I should be running off of even for a short time).
I also love how I essentially paid $5 in shipping.
UPS 3 day was $26, I got a 15% off the seasonic PSU which knocked off $21.
Fed Ex 3 day was $189
Newegg 2 day was $177
Newegg next day was $212
Fixed that for you.

Sounds about right, rofl.
We really need
a moderatorsome server-side spambot that replies with the appropriate pre-designed build.I have the 2500k, MSI HAWK 560 Ti, Kingston 2x4GB 1333MHz and HAF 912 too! But I suggest you get a cooler for that 2500k.
