I started with windows 2000, then XP, then vista and finally windows 7 (And I also have a virtual machine with windows 8 testing OS on it :biggrin.gif: )
Windows 98 First Edition On my family's Pc. (Still have its product key)
Windows XP Home Edition on my VERY FIRST pc. (Still love XP)
Then Vista (:dry.gif:)
Then 7 (What im using now)
I remember Windows ME. I don't really see the difference between ME and 2000 though lol. I think ME was one of the most memorable OS's for me, since I used it the most out of all OS's to date.

??
2000 was built upon the NT kernel. ME was built upon the same kernel that 95 and 98 used. They were extremely different under the hood.

ME was built with some sort of horrific abomination of a DOS based (DOS to Win 98) and an NT based (Win NT to current) OS in mind, while 2000 was just NT based. Originally they were going to strictly make it DOS based but they kept "adding" to it if you will.
Essentially ME was..... A giant failed experiment. It barely worked, even out of the box and had so many issues with drivers, "plug and play pray", and just everything in general to the point where the OS was unuseable. Even now, when we've refined the drivers and MS has released updates (although dropped support for it fairly fast) it is still unstable, for no other reason than the fact that it was poorly coded. They should have dropped DOS based OSes after 98SE but they didn't for some godforsaken reason.
It is a lot like Vista in this way, both ME and Vista were finished.... but MS kept developing them for some reason, adding features that were supposed to be in the OS after them (2000/XP and 7) turning the OS into a gigantic mess. Save for the fact that Vista actually works and is just a little bloated. (Of course on launch it was exactly like ME.)
2000 was really only meant for workstations and schools but because it was so stable, worked exceptionally well, and overall felt solid a lot of people used it for home. As such, MS responded by releasing XP. If you set XP into the default classic windows theme and look at 2000 beside it, the two are pretty much identical in almost every way, because they pretty much are the same OS save for a few minor tweaks.

Also good luck figuring out how to install it in a VM without the manual, and even then, god help you.

I've played with Mac OS 8, 9 and X, also several linux distros. Just can't stand the incompatibility with EVERYTHING

It could also be neither.
Damn you forum only allowing two lines in the signature.
- Thank you slimes.
Ah yes, Windows XP. One of my favorite Operating Systems too. I just really miss the old style of grey windows and what not on older OS's.
