Seriously folks, iPads in schools is just part of the standard government tactic of throwing money at education without thinking too hard about the results.
It provides the taxpayer (or in this case, their kids) with a sense of something personally tangible from the government in exchange for tax dollars.
People starve everywhere.

Even if australian heroin addicts are less morally photogenic than emaciated african infants, they still need feeding...
You are not alone…. :sad.gif: Ours got them at the beginning of the school year. The teachers are supposed to somehow integrate them into teaching, but many of the teachers have discovered Angry Birds….
Wait, hold up, just reread the post: you are ALL getting iPads? Only my teachers are getting them….
My school has textbooks from the late 80's to 90's, computers that are on Windows 2000 and we're not allowed to use any of our electronics in school.
Similar to when I was still in school. One of our maths texts was written in the early 70s.
We weren't actually allowed to type out any assignments either. Everything had to be hand written.
At my high school, every single kid is given a Macbook to do their Homework and classwork on. Almost all of our assignments are on our computers, which we also take home and use. It's nice because you can contact all teachers through email, and it's fun to make Presentations instead of essays.

Clearly the most efficient option is to use a bow, but not actually shoot arrows. Just beat mobs to death with it.
Not trying to be harsh but to those of you that are saying that the school is stupid for using the money it has for something they think might be useful you are just complaining because your school doesn't have them. But one thing I find weird is that the teacher gets to decide if the child gets to use it. If its for school work why let the teacher decide if they get to use the ipad.
I got nothing in high school and haven't the slightest inclination as to why it might be a necessary element of education.
I think it's quite the opposite actually.

The primary school (year 1 - 7) gets Ipads, New Computers, Laptops, Ipods and Smartboards (Interactive electronic whiteboards) for use. My school just gets crappy computers. D:
Thats why I think its a bad idea, it wont help kids at all really it'll help them not do anything in class though for sure.
Not just in Africa, but everywhere else in the world including America. Stop thinking only of Africa.

Everyone.
Not carrying textbooks all the time
could be nice.
