I hate to break it to you but there is nothing you can do to help, besides it's their own darn fault for having 20 freaking kids per family they can't feed.
Those people are poor because their countries are a mess. Living in those places is hellish usually, you had a better life living in the woods in colonial america.
Its just trash dumps and no jobs or farming or anything, can't make an economy without giving people ways to do something with their lives.
Realistically the red cross is just putting them on welfare and hoping their countries develop, throwing money at them instead of educating people here better doesn't solve anything.
Apple gives schools "special deals" on most Apple products in the hope that the students buy Apple products for their homes to use the same software and become attached to Apple products and continue to use them after graduation. The eMac (educationMac) was actually designed specifically for use in schools.
It's a brilliant marketing scheme when you step back and look at it objectively.
It's not that I'm uneducated, I just don't see a reason in helping people in africa when I know they will just turn around have you know what, give some people aids, have a bunch more kids they can't feed, provide shelter/education to, etc.
In my school we have a class called Bio-Tech which mixes our biology and technology classes. We get Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1's. There's a few hundred kids in the class (different periods not at the same time).
Someone gave my school a grant and they got iPads for a specific class, for students to use in class. Not personal iPads.
Makes me mad, one chemistry class gets iPads but my class, which is the exact same but with a different teacher, gets nothing.
Personally Id on't care because I have my Nexus 7, but it is frustrating for everyone else.

when I was in high-school, it was a few computers off in the library which had Win98...
never really used them though (like), and the whole "computers in the classrooms" thing was fairly uncommon at the time.
when I got to college, I went and got a laptop, the one I got at the time came with WinXP.
yes, all this was a time long ago now...
as for iPads, this seems a bit on the expensive end.

My little brother got a netbook from my old high school. The kids unable to access the internet at home are getting a little wireless card. Also, I lived in an area where at least 60% of the school were mainly country people, who used the stairwells and bathrooms to smoke.
Also, it's just ridiculous to give this out. Build actual computer labs with computers that work well enough for the kids to do research and papers without hiccups. Laptops in the room are nice for certain classes, but enough computer labs would get rid of that need.
My school is so destitute, we have iPads but for the class I am taking, History through Technology, there are only three for a class of 20. That's not surprising to me though, we don't even have enough laptops.
I go on a school (currently 9th grade) with about 600 students and we all got Macbook pro. We are free to do pretty much anything we want with them. But it they break or get stolen we need to pay school $1,666.
What if they overheat? It isn't your fault, but they still break.
My collage has PC's that run Windows XP (some have Windows '98), have 256 MB of RAM and are running Intel Celeron processors, and our professors assure us their computers are cutting edge.
They also have some iMacs with these huge ass monitors running OS X 10.3 Panther.
That is so wasteful to give public school students cutting-edge portable computers (laptops and tablets). I would be fine with them giving out accessible ebook readers. I bet New Jersey does this as well. They have mostly overfunded and underperforming schools.

Close to it. Maybe like 45% or something. It's outrageous where I live.
Edit: Just found out exact amounts. I make $110k a year, and I pay $47751 in tax. That's 43.41%.
