I need to buy a graphics card for my new computer (since running off a chipset is really no good).
My specs are:
-Computer-
Processor : 4x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 550 @ 3.20GHz
Memory : 7861MB (927MB used)
Operating System : Linux Mint 11 Katya
Motherboard :ASRock H55
-Display-
Resolution : 1024x768 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Desktop GEM 20100330 DEVELOPMENT
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation
-Multimedia-
Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
-SCSI Disks-
ATA Hitachi HDS72101
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7260S
I am not changing any these above things.
Would you help my pick please?
If you can, I'd upgrade to an i5 2500K, so I can overclock it and for better for performance.
But hey, that's just me.
WHat kind of gaming are you going to be playing? simnple games, like MC and Terraria? Or complex, graphic-heavy FPSes like BF3 and MW3 and games like Skyrim? Telling us these things would help us help you decide on what GPU to pick.

I'm not getting a i5.
I will be definitely playing MC and terraria along with some older games such as C&C Tiberium wars and stuff like that.
Anyways, I think any more than a 6870 or so will be bottlenecked by the CPU.
EDIT: And looking at what you're doing, you shouldn't need more than a 6770.
Also, AMD 7xxx series will be out in January. While only the higher-end ones will be out then, the mainstream ones should also be out soon thereafter. When those come out, you will either be able to get better performance for the same price, or the same performance for a lower price. Also remember that when the 7770 or w/e comes out, the 6770 will reduce in price.

I was wondering why a google search came up with ATI mobility Radeon Hd 5650.
But hey, that's just me.

Yeah, that is when I'm thinking of getting it.
Maybe, not sure.
Thanks, I will look into it.
I would go for a Radeon 6870 2GB then, because it will be able to run what you need and any FPS you may want to play in the future.
He doesn't need 2GB.
I didn't think so either, I haven't really got a good enough processor and expect 2GB is pretty expensive.
