Feature Idea:
You know in people signatures sometimes they have these "Please click my dragon!". I thought of something like that implented into the game. Say like, click on the sword to give me +0.1 xp for something like that.
Because in every single game forum, every single 3d modeling community, coding community, etc. gets these posts every couple days, they are always someone (usually in their teens) who wants to start making a game, usually an MMO of some sort. These projects never go anywhere. Usually the person who wants help/has the idea is just that, the person for the idea. They usually never help code, do art, etc. You cannot lead a game by having ideas, ideas are cheap and what you are thinking right now has probably been thought up by hundreds of studios over the years.
It's always "hay guize I has great idea for MMORPG itll be awsum! but i cant code or art lol so i need u all to do that k? also i cnt pay anething till it sells XD kewl".
Creating a game, let alone a 3D game, let alone an online game, LET ALONE an MMO is extremely difficult and usually takes major studios upwards of 5 years or more to complete.
It won't happen and it never does.
OP's game will not make it past pre-pre-pre-pre development alpha.

We are actually doing pretty good fine sir. Your a mean person to discouraging of making a popular game. We already have a story-line, all of our sources set up. I know how to code, I bet you don't. I bet you don't have a million dollars to spend. I bet you don't have the best recorder for this. I go against you. I bet in 4 years when this gets very popular, and you get banned, you well think I shouldn't have said that. I think we can do this. And now get out of my post.

Do you have any sort of a start, or are you just posting? If you have something to show us, you'd get a massive boost in ledgit-ness. Also, MMO is bad. Just multiplayer can be accomplished without a massive budget, and/or too much free time =). If you can show me some sort of a start, I'd be glad to help out. C++ isn't my strongpoint however. (C# I can do though).
Actually we are working on artwork I'll post some right now. We are working on the storyline too before we get into coding. But yes, we do have a start.

I am not a mean person, I am telling the truth.
The truth hurts, and I think you're in over your head.

Hahahahaha oh wow you're hilarious. Sorry but I would rather not waste my time on a shambled together 'MMO' by a small team of people who likely barely have a grasp of what they are doing.
Look. You.....you "non-mean truth-telling" person. Your over your head. I tell you. I tell you this is going to be great. I don't care if its a small team or not! Notch created this game, this wonderful game called Minecraft. Because of a small team. I don't want to be big like Microsoft. Now. Stop being a person stopping games from happening. All you know this could be the next big game like Minecraft.
PS: Since you think this isn't going to work out, why are you keep doing this? Is it your job to run up behind people and say something like "You can't make a new game because you don't know what your doing". I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! I've been working this since last week. Know stop being a "truth-telling person" and put a cat on your head.

We get thousnads of people posting stuff like this. Notch had experince working in games and made many prior to minecraft and even minecraft he got help from other experinced programmers like Jens. You are also compared minecraft a fairly simple creativ game to a mmorpg you want to make. Blizzard one of the best devleopment teams around started on world of warcraft in 1996 and allready had the engine they based it on done before that. Wow took 9+ years of development to produce.
Knowing c++ syntax is a start but you also gotta learn to program shadders and working with Opengl or dirctx both can be very hard to learn to make a 3d game engine.
You should start with a simple singleplyer game not jump into a massive mmorpg.
He is not trying to stifle your creativity he is just giving your fair warning maybe a little bluntly but the truth.
You should not assume that it will become popular. Just because one indie game minecraft is huge not all indie games will. Minecraft becoming this insanely was by random chance.
Even if you do complete the game, don't expect much from it. There are millions of completely un-downloaded indie games on the internet, quite a lot of them on Steam and the Xbox Live market place.
LOOK! I'm not making this multiplayer RIGHT AWAY! And if this comes out good I'm not interested in making this a Steam game. This game is based on a RPG storyline. And STOP freaking discouraging me. Like you can make games better than me :\
PS: Did you read the post? Its 2D! A good project, I'm not making a huge RPG game like Portal 2.
PPS: And Minecraft did not become popular by random. It took people who liked his idea, and his community, now stop trying to discourage me and move on to other threads and leave me alone if you don't have anything nice to say.

Fail much? Portal isn't an RPG.
RPG is an acronym for Role-Playing Game. Which means immersing yourself into the game. Making the the character you're controlling you. Like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series and many other games that involves buying, selling, skills, etc. Which the name suggests. Playing the Role of the Protagonist.

Well ok. I get it. And thanks for not being mean like the others.
You may not make it multiplayer straight away, but that does not mean you will not spend years making infrastructure for the game. You will need servers, an extremely good internet connection, lots of time, lots of money, a dedicated team and a very, very long time using your language. You need to be an expert.
These forumers, such as fm87, may not come across as nice, and I accept your reasoning behind that. He is stating things rather bluntly, but he speaks the truth. fm87 is probably one of the most knowledgeable people on here.
IT's unlikely you will create an RPG and have it become popular. Quit before you're in too deep.
Acting just like fm87. Now, I KNOW that servers cost money. And I KNOW that multiplayer is hard work. that is why I'm waiting for donations and getting more experienced.

The worst thing you could possibly do is put the netcode in first. You should always save it for when base mechanics and structures are rock solid.
