I wanted to make sure he bought me the best computer for a low cost
The fact is, ALL computers are low cost now. I have an IBM thinkpad that cost 8 grand in 1994, and now even the most expensive/high-end laptops you can find in most areas don't break 2 grand.
Since it's not dual/triple/quad core
a Core i5 is a quad core. Fairly sure they have hyperthreading as well (giving 8 effective visible cores to the OS)
My goodness people, this has a 6450, a 40$ card meant for htpc use, not for gaming. This is not the best PC in the world.
Correction, it's not for "extreme gaming" on triple-AAA titles being released this/next year.
"OMG that has a card from last year/lowend and it can't be used for gaming" is an idiotic thing to imply. For one thing, Every single video card released today has at least 10 fold the power of gaming video cards from 5-6 years ago, and some how games still ran fine then. The fact is that people seem to feel that "gaming" means "gaming with the latest trend-setting games at the highest settings" but gaming is a broad category and to assume that somebody wants to play only the latest and 'greatest' titles is to assume they are shallow individuals, which is rather unfair. Especially when they state outright the highest game they will need is AVA online, which even the most rudimentary search will reveal recommends specifications that when compared to their system are laughably low.
I also don't see how they would need a better card for texture packs. Any video card from the last 10 or so years has more than adequate memory to hold the textures of the game at 256x256, proven by the fact that my older machine with a 5500FX had no issues whatsoever with a 256x256 texture pack. At least for the day or so I had to use that system rather than my primary desktop.
I've heard a lot of people's thoughts, and I'm getting torn on who to believe...some say this won't handle really high resolution packs, others say it will run it just fine. It doesn't help at all.

Why not just use it and see for your self? Or is it going to be a Christmas gift?

When you get the money i suggest a better video card.
Try for a medium end one if you don't plan to play demanding games such as crysis.
I haven't gotten it yet :tongue.gif:
Well that's good. I don't need to go any higher than a 64x unless quality needs to be amazing, so this is good news :biggrin.gif:
