For some people, this just isn't an option. Besides, its not really that bad. It definitely isn't ideal but there is no necessity for 4GB, and definitely not 8GB. I can run 256x texture packs on max settings with 3GB.
@OP
2GB should be enough as long as you stay mindful of processes running in the background.
1 ) 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 400 (PC2 3200) - http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820134178
$14
-It is sold in packs of one apparently, so you'll have to buy 2-4 of them.
It's only $28 excluding tax and shipping. If you want an upgrade, there is your upgrade.
Refer to my older post for a working link.
I think 400+ MB or something like that..
I have a 4GB at the moment on my main computer and runs pretty good.
So just get 1GB+ Ram and you should be pretty good.
Oh hell no, 1GB of ram will get you 10FPS for life!
I've got 3GB and only get about 20 and if I'm lucky and have OptiFine isntalled around 30!
I couldn't imagine having less than 1 GB. Having 2 GB of ram is usually adequate for most things but is frustrating at times. Minecraft generally runs pretty well on 2GB ram for me at least, but I wish it was better. Just get 4 at least.
Well i run on minecraft on max setting 100% of the time with:
Microsoft Windows 7 Windows 7 Pro 64 and 32bit - Have two HDD's and processor is capable with both
ASUS P5G41T-M-LX G41 DDR3 Motherboard
24” LG E2441V-BN 5ms HDMI DVI LED Monitor
1GB ATI RadeonHD 5670 PCI-E Graphics Card
Intel Dual Core E6600 3.06Ghz 775pin - sometimes when playing minecraft i overclock it to 3.86ghz
2x WD Caviar Black 1 TB SATA 7200rpm 64mb cache with SATA 6 Gb/s connection
8GB DDR3 1333 Memory (2x 4GB Patriot PC3-10666 (1333MHz) Enhanced Latency - Patriot G2 Series)
I'd suggest getting a new computer, really. DDR2 memory is starting to go up in price quite a bit (similar how DDR went up after DDR2 was the standard for a while) and pouring money into a hunk of junk is never a good idea.
But if you really have no other choice get 2GB. You don't need 4GB, or rather, you couldn't handle 4GB worth of programs with the processor you're using.
this, 2gb is max for your computer and minimum for new programs, so it'll be a tight squeeze, but it will GREATLY improve both minecraft and just everyday use on your computer

No help allowed ask your own question of it or even better, go look for a answer. 2 GB of memory(RAM) is required but it takes 2 of 2 GB of memory(RAM) So you need 4 GB, That's the minimum of memory(RAM) needed for all types of electronics accept for some minecraft games that just started like minecraft: Windows 10 edition that just started so the minimum of Memory(RAM) for that platform would be about 2 GB of memory(RAM) needed. P.S. This thread has rabies for a little bit unless someone else replies if someone does replies this thread will become a zombie. I have a little fact about RAM with minecraft if you made a mistake, If you buy RAM off the internet or something and it does not fit in your computer and you really want to play minecraft clearly sell the Memory(RAM) for the same price you bought it as and use the money you selled it with a buy new RAM that fits in your computer and there you can play minecraft clearly if it does not fit keep on doing it.
More RAM than it will need won't make it perform any better as long as the OS and other programs aren't chewing the leftovers up. 32 GB is an absurd amount of RAM that most people with normal usage wouldn't need.
And they both run @ at the same speeds...
Is Intel lying to us? Yes
COME AT ME BRO!

RAM does not have anything to do with FPS.
It sounds like you didn't take care of your computer and there is a ton of bloatware installed, or it needs maintenance.

Why did you bump a thread that was last posted in October 10th?
And no, you should not get a Mac.

1. making mods that means coding because you need to know how to code to make mods.
That's some hardcore necro.
Let's do some math.
1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...
1 - 0.999... = 0.999... - 0.999...
0.0...1 = 0
0.0...1 * 10... = 0 * 10...
1 = 0
Minecraft (or Java as a whole) is a memory hog. I'd be running 8 GB minimum for great performance. Personally I opted for the two 8 GB DDR3 sticks.
I should probably upgrade to 32 but whatever.
More RAM than it will need won't make it perform any better as long as the OS and other programs aren't chewing the leftovers up. 32 GB is an absurd amount of RAM that most people with normal usage wouldn't need.
