It has ads, popups, and is annoying to download from. So why do people use it? I can never download from it because if I block ads/popups, it also blocks the javascript to show the download link. And half the time it is blocked anyway so I can't even connect to it in the first place. Why do so many people use such a horrible site? There are great alternatives, it just makes me wonder. I generally say DO NOT pick a download site with any one of these qualities:
need to enter a code to download
need to wait for a timer to download
only a limited numebr of people can download at once
ads are present
popups are present
Mediafire has 3 of the aforementioned qualities, so why do so many people use it?
Because mediafire works well on many people like me. I use google crome and adblock and still can download from there very well. Offcourse someones use directlink, but adfly middle of it. It is so shame how my adblock blocs ads of adfly.
Firstly, do not make an argument like this without suggesting an alternative.
The good alternatives that I can think of are Dropbox (which you need to make an account for) and Will Host For Food (Which has been dead a long time). Can you think of a better media hosting site?

I've always been this way. A patched-up, crazy matryoshka.
Everybody uses mediafire because it doesn't impose ridiculous limits on uploaders and downloaders unlike every other free file hosting site does(I'm looking at you, rapidshare).
And when I do not use Adblock, I have never had any pop-ups unless I clicked on an ad.
Also, every single file hosting site has ads. Deal with it.
Opera Adblocker doesn't interfere with the download and it blocks ads first of all. Second media fire doesn't require you to make an account to upload files. Third, it is user-friendly.
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned FileFront/GameFront yet...
I use Gamefront for larger uploads, but Mediafire seems to have faster uploads/downloads. Its only problem is that you can't upload files larger than 200 MBs.
I agree. While its not the worst, I hate the fact that sometimes it just won't let you download a file - sits there saying getting your download ready. Also, do you all people have DL speeds of 40KB/s? Cuz I get 900KB/s on sendspace, and 700KB/s on ADrive but 45KB/s on mediafire... MegaUpload is actually better now, since it has 400KB/s speed and only 45 secs of waiting, which is much less time than it takes to Dl with no waiting time but only 40kbs. Thats my opinion at least.
Depends on your location I guess. I usually get download speeds of at least 200kbps to 800kbps from Mediafire, and wait... there's pop ups in their site? I don't receive any at all.
Because it's simple to upload, free, and well-known..
And for the downloading bit, no codes, no waiting times, no thing as "Premium" for faster download and instant download, because download times depend on your Internet speed.
I don't particularly like Mediafire. It's just very... bloated. Too much going on. I just want to share my files, and that is it. Minus (min.us) is great. No account needed, either.
Filedropper is another one, and it makes a link for you (i.e. www.filedropper.com/yourFileName) instead of some ugly crap. Although I do think you need an account for your files to stay. I haven't used that one as much.

Its good because.
No timer ****
No code ****
No shitty download speed.
Sure, ads, get an adblocker. Can't get one? GTFO off of Internet explorer and get Firefox!
How about bit torrent? Hmmm...
Also, for the record Ad-aware works great for blocking ads.
I also hear Adblock is good for Firefox. I tried it with Opera, but it sucked.

Curse PremiumOr Chrome, the same people who wrote adblock for firefox ported it to chrome.
