Kids who are 12 think they are mature, but your brain does not stop developing until you are around 23 years old. At 12, your pride and confidence begins to bloom, and your decision making section tends to have very little improvement from what it was a couple years ago. They think because they are about to be a teenager they know everything, people should treat them like and adult, and that they shouldn't be treated as little kids. And the latter is true. They should not be treated as little kids, but as older kids. They are not as mature as a teenager, but are still a bit more mature than a younger kid.
The human brain doesn't stop developing at 23. It stops "developing" the day you die of old age. People also don't consistently get more mature past 12 years old... At least that's the view of my dad and I. Some people mature after they turn 12. Many people stay exactly as mature. What people do accumulate is simple knowledge. Or awareness of certain things.
The first real, shocking game I played was Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. The opening scene at Pearl Harbor completely shocked me, and I turned it off because of the screaming, burning, and chaos of real war.
I don't think this depends on your age. Many adults can't watch movies that depict that stuff. Others are fascinated by it. I don't handle that stuff any better now than I was when I was 12 (and I'm a university dropout).
Was I a worse web citizen when I was 14 and 15? No clue. I lead a team for a year in Unification Wars. Shared people's secrets in absent-minded moments. Pissed loads of people off. Got voted out of leadership. Maybe I have better people-skills now... Maybe.
Twenty year-olds are over-rated.

I don't mind kids playing games as long as they are decent in playing the game and shut up. The first FPS I played was Halo in kindergarten or at least almost as far back as I can remember, and I know that is a young age to start playing violent games, but who cares I was pretty decent at that age with beating campaign or easy or regular, and staying offline. So at my young years I was better than some adults at games and my skill increased a lot more with age. By the age of 8 I was playing online and kicking ass. So I guess I don't mind kids playing video games as long as they aren't complete retards and keep their microphones off or stay offline until they can follow those two basic rules.

I Play games, and program in Python, If you need help send me a message!
its somewhat annoying though because its not always the younger one who are annoying (easy kill )
so older people troll and **** me off while playing BF3 and the nice conversations we have in the chat box are always enjoyable
My only problem is squeakers,
Or the OMIGOD HAX YOU FAGOORT,
IMACUMTOYOURHOUSEANDRAIPYOUFORDAT
you know, That stuff
My protip is that you shouldnt mic chat if your voice hasn't cracked yet
Also, try to keep a cool head, if you flip out people are juuuust gonna think youre stupid
it's okay for little kids to play games if it's something like minecraft or Littlebigplanet. When you see little 10 year olds in games,it makes me wonder what the parents were thinking when they bought that game. My mom bought my dad Black Ops the year I turned 12, she wouldn't let me play it until i convinced her that i wouldn't use bad language and stuff. I only got my mic to work after I turned 13, and my voice had already deepened. I only use it if i'm playing with friends anyway.
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens. if i helped press the + :D!
I think people get a little overacted when you hear a kid on a mic in black ops or tf2 and such. I mean, yeah, A kid on the mic can have an annoying voice, but some adults have annoying voices. And really? Just get over it. Its not their fault so don't give them hate.
The only reason I don't think a kid should play games like those, is because what people might say in front of them. As in cursing, which they shouldn't be doing anyway. Not to mention they don't always know when a kid is on or not. They may not be using a mic.
Now on the subject of the actual games content, I think there are some games that have things in them, that nobody no matter what age should be experiencing, an i will never play these games.
I'm 15. I don't have a high voice at all, and I'm very mature. Of course, I'm gonna consider myself a kid till I'm 18, because I know I still have lots to learn. But I do play some M games such as TF2. And every once in a while I use a mic (I dont get hate).
I think it is ok as long as they are mature and don't whine and act like a two year old and swear, But I personally don't really care about stuff like that. But it is really annoying and I no a lot of gamers really care so if you are like ten and playing m games don't act like a baby and be mature!

1.- It's bad to let kids play games rated M, since they can think it's cool and maybe even turn violent.
2.- It isn't THAT bad to let them play, it's bad to let them play online
3.- They're irritating.
I am in highschool and I can stand smaller people, but not little tyke squeakers. I used to play halo games at the age of 12, and I never activated my mic once. Now, that I am acceptable to the community to have a decent voice, I use my mic less consistently.
As long as the child does not mic spam or act stupid, I am fine with the people who play older people's games. It's really the parent's choice on what they want their child to see and hear.
