Using this forum has caused me to develop a passionate dislike of people below the age of about 15. They usually don't read, don't pay attention, and generally derp the place up wherever you find them.
Oh, and the more mature ones are always so up-the-ass about how much BETTER they are than their peers. Clearly they fail to see irony in that.
Hey! I'm thirteen, and am I that bad?
Also, it depends. I, at 13, am not allowed to play M-Rated games (not even Deus EX! luckily, my Latin teacher is awesome.), but I'm allowed to see Men Who Stare at Goats, LoTR, and numerous other films with violent and adult themes. My parents don't want me to pretend to kill someone, which is the reason I can't play almost any game on the market. I think those are contradictory.
However, even if I am mature enough now, there are a lot of kids who have the wrong idea of war and death due to playing games like CoD at too young an age. Some people just can't distinguish games from reality.
I played my first M rated game at like... Age 6... It was Halo: Combat Evolved demo on PC. I never actually spoke to people online until I was 8 or 9, But I never had a mic but I did sound like a little faggot. About 2-3 years after that I became the phosisticated person online that I am today. (I spelt sophisticated wrong on purpose, just saying this in advanced.)
It does my heart good to see so many people who aren't ageist :smile.gif:
I don't think kids should be playing the newer CoD games, because quite frankly, they are grotesque. I'm 13, and I have played a lot of M games, and have been playing them for many years, but my parents taught me to make my own responsible choice. They aren't peering over my shoulder to see what I'm playing all the time, but they trust me to choose. I chose not to play CoD because it creeped me out.
However, most kids do not know when to stop.
I hope video games don't make kids think they are immortal, so I'm counting on a few of these posts being exaggerations. But, violence at an early age can numb a person to certain things. I am like that a bit, but not to the point where I think I'll "respawn".
since when do kids get paid for recording minecraft? all the famous minecrafters who have youtube partnership are NOT lil kids
i've actually seen a few posts by some 12 year olds that think that they can get some company to sponsor them and give them free stuff to advertise on their youtube channel with 12 subscribers. its pathetic really...
Mature 12-15 year olds are fine. As long as they don't have high squeeky voices.
Immature 12-15 that act like this."How did you kill me faggot?" "God you're such a fag." "You are so gay."
Those ones shouldn't be on.
But it seems I am lucky and normally find the good ones...who talk very little, and when they do, it's usually funny.
If they don't talk at all, it's fine.
Off Topic:And if the parent doesn't like it because of "Blood" and "Swearing" but they let there kid play it anyway, that really just peeves me off.

That's mostly a bot, if you fall for it you are screwed.
Im 14 but my voice sounds high pitched on the mic so half the time ill just turn it off out of common courtesy for the others the only time i plug the mic in is because im in a party with friends.
I just can't stand all the moves to ban or limit M rated games because they are a bad influence for children, when the only way kids get these things is their parents...
im 12 and iv played gta 3, gta 4, gta sa, cod waw, cod mw 4, cod mw 2, cod black ops, fall out 2, fall out 3, fallout nv, assassins creed ect. I am a mature gamer shure i might some times laugh a little when i shoot some guys head and whatch his brains splater all over the wall but the important thing is that i under stand that the stuff i see is rong.
Many of you seem to have a fundamental assumption that children under the age of fifteen simply cannot play video games with anyone older. This is not the case- I am living proof. My first online gaming experience was at age eleven; I played an F2P shooter in secrecy (my parents didn't want me to play). Never once did I curse or berate anyone. After that, I moved on to a WWII flying simulator, where I played with men two, three or even four times my own age. Though I did not make it past the probation period the first time, the squad was happy to have me in a few months upon my second try. Again, I was as polite as I could be (though I was naive on some matters).
It is not the case that every single twelve year old is impolite on the internet. In fact, the majority are polite- it's just that you rarely hear from them since the louder, impolite ones drown them out. As of writing this defense of children on the internet, I am fifteen years of age.

I believe all of that post there. I can almost say that you have ended this thread, but we all know that this thread will EXIST! Mostly for minor debates on this topic.
well really all this controversy stems from the idiotic idea that all kinds of media can be classified as appropriate for people above 13 above 18 or under 13, and that as soon as you turn 13 you are just as mature as someone who is 17 years old, and can be exposed to everything they are and not be damaged at all, but if you are 12 and a half and are exposed to a clip from grand theft auto you are stripped of all your moral code and can no longer function in society. i mean really?
the real answer is that there is no rigid one size fits all code to tell parents whether their kids can handle content or not, the desk jockey at the ESRB doesn't know your kids. What parents really need to do instead of relying on a completely detached organization to tell them what they should and shouldn't be letting their kids view and play, they should parent and decide themselves.
11 year old here, just wanted to drop by and say my part.
Someone a awhile back said for my geration and the next to play with more creative games like Spore (one of my favorites) and Minecraft. These games are great, although they don't have much of a story..(not a bad thing) I DID play CoD: Black Ops for about five seconds then quit, its still sitting there on my shelf of games. I do have Fallout 3, and I think its great, I'm a big fan of Apocoliptic and Post-Apocoliptic stories. I also play and like Half-Life 2,
TF2 and Terraria(I can't spell it right.) I'm mature enough to kow whats good and whats not. Saveing the world form aliens = good. Going on a massacure though a Russian airport = bad.
I wanted to say my part and I thank you for listening.
Happy Trails,
-Julian
(sorry if I skipped around too much, I'm kinda tired :biggrin.gif:)
Well, I got my first M rated game when I was around 11.
I got my first shooter when I was 5.
The main thing is on xbox I see way too many 7 year olds swearing. I don't even swear (In Voice No on Computer Yes, but not personal). My parents don't want me to at home. Some youngsters are cool and really nice. I just hate the ones who annoy on purpose.
I think the more we expose children to violence, nudity, drugs, and overall fun, and the younger we do it, the better. Sheltering children never helps, the quicker they learn the better.

I disagree entirely, that tbh sounds like a post from a child. children now learn about sex and drugs in the 5th grade, and start fighting before that. The result is children that do not realize the impact of their actions such as picking fights or experimenting with drugs. When I was in 9th grade there were 4 different girls in my grade alone that were pregnant, which is mad worse by the fact that my entire high school 9-12 at that time had only about 400 kids...
I mean really, you equate violence nudity and drugs with fun? You obviously have some growing up to do yourself, but in the mean time, enjoy your drug addiction, std's and numbness towards violence.
I believe that kids shouldn't be playing violent video games such as Call of Duty, Halo, etc, until they are at the very least 12 years old. When I was 5, we had a PlayStation one and an Atari. We didn't have a whole lot of money, so me and my sister played on a demo game disk with games such as Spiro the Dragon. I only ever very rarely even watched my father play games such as Halo. My first game with guns was a Lara Croft game, where all I ever did was walk around Lara's mansion, and (arguably) the most violent thing I did in the game was lock the Butler into the freezer (it was the only way to make him leave you alone). The first FPS I ever played came along when I was 12-13 and I had gotten all A's on my report card, and it was the first Halo for the PC. I played it until you discover the flood, promptly quit, and didn't go to sleep that night until probably 1:00. I played COD for the first time last year when I was 14-15. Also, I didn't watch movies greater than PG.
The reason that I think that little kids should not play games such as COD or GTA is that I think that it messes you up in the long run. I can look around at all the people that have been playing those games since they were 5, and I see that most of them (note I did not say all) are violent, they get in fights, have bad grades, get drunk, use drugs, and worse. (although, California, Washington, and Ohio may not be the best places to look around in). In fact, I can just look at my two younger brothers, who play Halo and watch violent movies regularly. When they play with each other, the games they make up are almost always very violent, and are sometimes rather graphic too. They attack each other for little or no reason, and hold a grudge against each other like you wouldn't imagine. And they both have D's on their report card (or the 1-4 equivalent, these new grading systems are really confusing). Something that never would have happened when I was a kid (my parents would have killed me, not even kidding (well, maybe a little)).
Children may tell you that they know it is all a game and that they would never do something like that in real life, but that is just the consciousness. Video games also affect the subconscious and children's long term behaviors, and that is even more important than short term and more noticeable affects.

You sir, are ignorant. Things like nudity and violence games are for learning. Don't you think they should experiment with killing hookers in Grand Theft Auto rather than do it in real life? Seriously.
