Hi guys, after the steam sales, i've decided i need a new computer. Well, i've been needing one for a long time anyways. My computer can't run an of the games i have, and it's extremely slow. So i need your help to build a new one. I've been to man sites showing you how to buld one, and i saw a video series that shows exactly how to build one. My problem, which i found is the hardest part, is buying the parts. I went to newegg.com and there were so many things to buy. Other than that, how do i know what is compatible to what? I have found a processor though. What do you guys think about this one: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost)
The Core i5's are pretty good. AMD just came out with their new line of APUs which have a DX11 discrete-level graphics processor built into the CPU, so they're probably worth checking out too

It's not an optical illusion, it just looks like one.
i5-2500k is what I am using now. It's really good for what I'm using it for. But if you're more of a gaming guy you should probably go for AMD :wink.gif:

I. Don't. Understand. :tongue.gif: Sorry, but that's my problem. If i knew about computer parts, i wouldn't need to ask for help. If you don't mind, could you give me specific processors.

I would say vice versa. The intel CPUs are better all around actually.
If you design stuff with photoshop or code stuff rather than gaming then I'd go with Intel. If spend your time at the computer mostly gaming I'd go with AMD. If you're neutral / in between those two I'd go with Intel :smile.gif:
I will be gaming a lot. I plan to do some programming. There is a slight chance i might have to deal with photoshop. I might need to do some video editing/recording as well. By the way, my budget is from $500 - $1000. If you guys can find/build me a computer that can handle my needs, then thank you! The games i'll be playing are:
League of Legends
Minecraft
Company of Heroes
Red Alert 3
Terraria
and many other games i got from steam sales.

Intel will always win. Except in a very few amount of programs that are multithreaded. Either way, I would just get intel, overall, it's so much better.

Agreed. AMD just make cheap alternatives for budget computers, they are always behind Intel.

Wasn't AMD the first to make 64-bit processors, the first to make a decent integrated video solution, and (once Bulldozer comes out) the first to make an 8 actual core processor for "gaming"?

They were the first to make 64 bit processors, yes. Not sure about them making decent integrated grahics first though. 8 core processor? Xeons are already here.

Last time I checked Xeons are for workstations and servers, not gaming. And AMD's Llano series of APUs have good Integrated graphics compared to Intel's.

There are actually gamers that do use the xeons, for some odd reason. And none of this changes the fact that intel CPUs are currently faster.

If the CPUs were built for servers, it doesn't mean that we can't use them for something else. Easy way to make money selling hardware: slap the phrase "for gaming" into the name of the product.
Stop arguing and help this guy out! :biggrin.gif: I would say he should go with a Phenom II x4 build with his budget. If it was another 200 or so then the i5 would be good.

+1. Although if he wanted to Max out his budget he could probably just go ahead with the i5.

Thank you! Was just about to say this wasn't an AMD vs. Intel thread. :tongue.gif:
Thanks in advance guys.

So look up AMD for gaming computers?
I would say vice versa. The intel CPUs are better all around actually.
Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.

I'm aware that currently Intel CPU's are faster, I was just replying to the "AMD is always behind" part though.

I posted it already. It's from $500 to $1000.
Do you need any computer peripherals? Like Monitors, Keyboards, Mice, etc?
