A budget and a specific site you'd like to buy from, and we can give you a list of parts. Oh, and I reckon you should start from scratch. Don't even use the case, might have bad airflow.
You should get an extra gig of RAM, or more if you can stretch your budget. If you only want to play Minecraft and not other games, but surf the net and do your usual things you can always get rid of Windows and install Ubuntu, which Minecraft can be played on. (I find Ubuntu much more convenient and efficient than XP :tongue.gif:) In this way, you will be able to save a lot of your cash. Also, get a better graphics card that is compatible with your motherboard, it does not necessarily have to be those high-end graphics.. a simple but good one can do the trick.
If you do want to play other games besides Minecraft, like other users have suggested just build a new one from scratch. There's lots of guides online, in the libraries and in the bookstores on building your own computer.
Not sure about using the CPU; its a single-core. Do they even sell those these days?
Actually, Quatroking is right I didn't know that your processor was single core, (as I said I wasn't to good with these sorts of things.) However, what I do know is, Minecraft doesn't run well on single cores.
Go for a cheap AM2+ build. Can build one for around 500$, depending where you cut corners. I'll dig up a parts list for you, if you wish.
No, AM2+ is just too old. An intel pentium sandy bridge are great budget CPUs. If you can afford it, get an i3 2100. And theoretically, minecraft actually runs better off a single core, but with background processes, a single core starts to fail.
There is nothing 'budget' about a Sandy Bridge CPU. Budget is a 3GHz Athlon II X2 with 4GB of the cheapest Corsair RAM (2x2GB) and an Asus M4A78LT-M LE motherboard with 760G chipset (on-board graphics) all hanging inside a cheap case which comes with its own PSU.
Not that I would recommend a cheap case that comes with its own PSU, but if you really are on the tightest of budgets, sometimes it's the only way to go.
That's about £130, before you add hard drive(s), keyboard etc.
Cheapest Sandy Bridge i3 is just over £90, all by itself.
I was talking about the pentium sandy bridges. They cost about $60 - $80. Athlon II are just old, get a phenom II X2 555 if you want AMD, and you plan to overclock.
Are in the USA? You have to give us some sort of budget.

Athlon II and Phenom are exactly the same age, because they are both running off the same production lines. The major difference between them is amount of cache, which for most people will involve a barely noticable difference Athlon II also consumes less power and throws out less heat, which is an important consideration when you are dealing with crappy, budget PSU's and cases.
To be fair, I didn't actually know there was such as thing as a Pentium Sandy Bridge.
I really ought to catch up with news :smile.gif:
Sorry, I wasn't around for the phenoms and athlons release. But the Phenom II X2 555 is great for overclockers on a budget because you could potentially unlock all the cores and overclock it really nicely. Leaving you with a pretty good quad core. If you aren't overclocking, the intel pentium sandies are great. The G600's and G800's I believe. Less overclocking potential though.

Might want to add in the video card details along with that info.
Windows key + R
"dxdiag"
then look through the tabs to find it.
Edit: I don't know much about this, but I'm fairly certain that a 3.2GHz processor is good.

Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
also, Obligatory 'ram is lololol'
PS. I think you should totally name your next system 'OMGCOMPOOTER_II'

But first things first, specific site to buy from?
