EDIT: This also works in hackintosh computers, I have a 2007 aurora.
I found it LAGGING in Minecraft
Here's what YOU can do if you have a old MAC
Open TERMINAL, It's located in Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal, and Activity Monitor Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor.
Before this I reccomend you have at least 4GB (2x2GB) of RAM. Either DDR2 or DDR3
ALSO DOWNLOAD SMC FAN CONTROL AND REV YOUR FANS TO THE MAX (intel-macs only)
LAST NOTE: For users operating any 2011 MACBOOK PRO (13, 15, 17) make sure you reapply thermal paste to your heatsink, I suggest using Arctic Silver 5 or IC Diamond paste
CPU OVERCLOCK
In terminal type " yes>/dev/null " without the " repeat this in a new window according to how many processor cores you have, for example, a quad-core must do this 4 times.
FOR USERS OPERATING A MAC PRO YOU MUST USE A TOOL NAMED ZDNET OVERCLOCK
Download from zdnet.de
GPU OVERCLOCK
For users with NVIDIA graphics card, use a tool named ZEUS from Groths.org, it's currently on version 2.5, just press clock speed, and it will display the current clock, change that to whatever values you like (i suggest only a 30% increase but you may go further)
Click "clock speeds"
you may get
mem clock: 5
cpu clock: 5
try changing to
mem clock: 6
cpu clock: 6
or course it isn't a real clock, yours is maybe like 450 or something
more or less
For users with ATI or RADEON HD graphics cards, use a tool named ATIcelerator [GOOGLE].
For users operating a MAC PRO, use ZEUS to flash your 4870 to a 4890. You can find this tutorial online with GOOGLE.
System optimizing
You can download "CleanMyMac" from Piratebay or 4shared with a keygen/crack, have to be updated to the LATEST VERSION (dunworry all cracks r update safe)
And iTweax. (I reccomend you have 10.6+)
Click on
+Maintenance, select all 3 option, run.
+Rebuild, all except Spotlight index, run.
+Misc, select all except "only show faulty preference files", run
+Misc step 2, select all "disk utility" option, run.
If you have limited amount of RAM (2GB) I suggest you use iFreeMem
go more in detail with how to speed up your clock. I keep trying to increase at 30% like you recommended but it always defaults back to the original clock number :/

For users operating a MAC PRO, use ZEUS to flash your 5770 to a 5870. You can find this tutorial online with GOOGLE.
This is impossible. 5770s and 5870s use completely different PCBs, so the weaker components of the 5770 couldn't even handle being a 5870, if it were at all possible.
There is so much wrong with this post, and not because it's a Mac. Overclocking and laptops are two things that need to stay far away from each other. Why? Heat. Overclocking increases heat output, and laptops are hot enough already. Having an overclocked laptop play a game for 1 hour+ is a bad idea, and will greatly decrease the lifespan of at least the battery, but also the computer itself.
Even for the non-laptop Macs (iMac, MacPro), they're just not designed to be overclocked. The motherboard and probably the GPU wouldn't be able to handle it. You'd just decrease the lifespan of your computer, which isn't something you want to do when their starting price is $1200 and $2500 respectively.

acutually the mac pro is underclocked, it is supposed to run at higher speeds

If it was supposed to run at higher speeds, then that's how it'd come out of the box. They have different models for a reason. It doesn't change the fact the motherboards they use are not meant for overclocking.

The xeon is given a head room to overclock, apple's config, heatsink, fan etc, is designed to run hotter than a default underclocked xeon
I'm just wondering, how hot will the macbook be after you overclock and all? Won't the high temperature damage the macbook to a certain extent? I'm just wondering because I have a Macbook Pro as well and I definitely want to boost game performance.

well i have my fans revved up to the max for this, i suggest you get a notebook cooler too :biggrin.gif:
for more performance you can go with MSI afterburner, but since that's windows it's off-topic D:
well i game on windows, but a mac is fine too. i only do this when i'm doing aftereffects CS5, FCP or everytime i play minecraft :tongue.gif:
Sorry for reviving and old thread, but to clarify when you set custom clock speeds on Zeus and it shows you the apple default clock speeds when you press the 'Clock Speed' button in the 'Overclock' menu, has my custom clock speeds come into effect or have they been reverted to default?

Post your results.
zeus is supposed to work that way

maxes out the processor and disables the power from going idle
Thinking about coming a mod to simply not moderate.
eh really? why, i've been using it in my 2008 metal macbook and it's wonders compared to the factory shite that apple put in

i have a GeForce 9400M btw
Its the biggest rip off ever compared to the MX-2. The MX-2 is better and cheaper. The artic silver 5 is 12 dollars OEM, the MX-2 is 9 dollars retail. Here is proof it cools better: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=138&Itemid=1&limit=1&limitstart=3
Oh and FCP sucks now. I was thinking about getting FCP X, but changed my mind. Did you upgrade yet? Hope not.

You bought it from pirate bay? You didn't have to buy it. You can get it free there sucker.
(I love twisting people's words)

lol hahaha
er on that benchmark is the highest product the best or the lowest is the best? (on the table)
If you prefer OSX then...
1. Build/Buy a PC.
2. Install OSX on it.
3. Install Windows also, so you can play decent games.
4. Profit.
I already have one :wink.gif:
