I'm just going to assume you haven't done research on antivirus programs and let you off easy.
It is. I'm going to assume with you that you've never used anything beyond Debian. Arch only installs what you need. Ubuntu comes with more software and therefore more bloat. I admit that it's the easiest GNU/Linux distro to use, but easy does not mean clean.
No, I have. I didn't like fedora, I didn't like suse. Want a "clean" Ubuntu? Ubuntu Server edition is comparable to Arch. I am not sure if Arch comes with means of connecting to the net straight out of the box, but I can tell you that KISS doesn't always work with operating systems. I've used Ubuntu in 2008, when it was of version 8.04. I couldn't get a simple wireless connection to work. When I came back and downloaded 10.04, I was surprised that it could even connect to PPTP straight out of the box. Something may seem bloated to you, but for other users it might be a life-saver. In my opinion, Arch was built to be a fuss, not an OS.
Have you ever tried to install Arch? There is no bloated Gnome, KDE, or even XFCE unless YOU tell it to. YOU choose your WM and/or DE, YOU set the configs, everything is ran by YOU before it is done. That's the Arch philosophy. Ubuntu hides a lot from you, and as far as aptitude vs pacman, I'd have to pick pacman. It is extremely easy to use.
As I have stated above, I want my OS to work straight out of the box, and so do other standard users. I also doubt that big server companies are going to spend their time configuring their servers by themselves.
Correct me if I am wrong, but AVG Free does not have rootkit protection! A rootkit is probably the most dangerous type of malware you can get, it can really screw things up and even disable the antivirus! MSE and Avast offers rootkit protection for sure.
Why do people insist so much on something which has such a known major security hole?!?
Yeah, for Free antivirus go Avast. It has limited functionality in the free version, by which I mean it doesn't have any fancy stuff. It certainly doesn't sacrifice pure virus-keeping-out power. It works just fine without the paid version, and I haven't had any major problems. Good deal, getting Completely adequate Virus protection with some other features for $0. Infinite value.

I've done my research... Have YOU?
"let you off easy". What you really mean is "I'm not going to back up my statements because I know they aren't true and just hope that you don't respond to this post."
Well sorry, but I'm certainly not going to 'let you off' with such an ignorant and misinformed statement like that.
And the Virus Bulletin's VB100 tests don't show MSE doing remarkably well, either. http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/latest_comparative/index
Nor do they even seem to care, as their chart indicates they only tested it once during the period.
^^^ Notice how badly Microsoft does in almost all of it's tests?
If not one of these, I'd like to know where you got your benchmarks from... because I've just linked you to the most well known virus benchmarking companies. I even looked for others that you might have used to back up your statement and I really could not find any.
Also notice how the ones I mentioned, AVG, Avira, and Avast are all top competitors and typically all running better than MSE? And they are all free, too?
Don't make statements about things you don't know. That is simply just arrogant, ignorant, and deceptive.
If you're going to suggest someone else didn't do their research, you better had done your own.
I use avast. Avira is good to. DO NOT GET AVG. The free version is a passive antivirus. Which means that it only looks for viruses when it's scanning instead of when you download something or email or anything. And it doesn't catch as many viruses as avast.

Actually, a lot of these things you guys are saying about AVG are not true...
Like "it can't catch rootkits" (not true). And "it's a passive anti-virus and won't catch viruses on download".
AVG (yes, free) actually has a feature for email scanning, as well as download scans... As well, it can pick up on viruses when you run an executable and stop the virus from doing any harm.
AVG has some problems, like not as good detection rates or slower scanning, but it gets a bad rep that it doesn't deserve. It's still a very good anti-virus, one of the best, that is completely free to use.

That is true. There's a reason so many people know about it. I use avg when cleaning a computer of viruses. But as to have a full antivirus on your computer avg shouldn't be it.
Norton deletes items when they give false positives w/o asking.
AVG is a HDD / CPU hog even when not scanning.
AVAST Is decent but way too sensitive. Anything will set it off. Mostly Legit MMORPG clients.
By my opinion Avast is the best and good free anti-virus software. AVAST is the only one that has rootkit protection on the free version. None of the other free anti-virus software have it.
You can give Panda Cloud Antivirus for a go, I use it on Windows and I don't really have any problems with it. Of course, you can also
try out the free version of AVG, or perhaps Avast! Antivirus, they're pretty decent as well (but not so great :X).
comodo internet security is extremely hard to bypass, and it's defense+ feature is great at protecting important things like your registry. imo.. it's the best av and firewall, and i.t security suite out there.

Heh. Some people like to collect toolbars. You cannot have Internet Explorer without having a bunch of useless search toolbars!

And here's one about Microsoft's business AV software, showing how poorly it does, too:
