I've decided to go with the Core i7 2600K instead of the Core i5 2500K since I found out that I can probably afford to get it before school starts again.
How is this advertising for brands? I'm just trying to give people somewhat of a guidleline of what to go on when they build a computer.
Because the PSU, GPU, CPU, and Case choices. They're all pretty much the same, just steps up from the last.
I.e. HAF 912 --> HAF 922 --> HAF 932 --> HAF X
Antec PSU's are picked a lot. Too bad the NEO series kinda sucks.
All of your builds past $1100 are all 2600k's with only Nvidia cards, except for the last two. And the one with 4 Quattros is dumb.
I could go on, but the point of my posts is that this thread is completely useless. It's a snapshot of right now. In a few weeks, it'll be outdated. Especially since Bulldozer is coming out soon. It makes buying anything other than a 1155 processor dumb. And since the i3 2100 and i5 2400 are competitive against Phenom II processors, sans the horrible-buy 1000T series, it would be plain stupid to not go with 1155.

Nice Fear. It'll be alot faster if your going to be doing video rendering. Its also overclockable... But I don't teach anyone that so they can't say i blew up their rig.
Total w/ monitor and keyboard, speakers, mouse: $1,530 (about the same as what I had before but w/ a core i5 2500K)
Just remember to get a heatsink, and thermal paste. I recommend the "Hyper 212 Plus" from coolermaster, and for paste, "Arctic Silver 5". You don't really need a lot of paste, heres a video if this is your first build.
You do know you can just go with standard thermal paste... That is what I have done in every single build I have. It's just like buying an HDMI cable. You can go for the 90 dollar ones, but they won't last you any longer than a regular 10 dollar one.
12-16 or even 10 degrees clearly says that either you have installed your cooler very badly, or installed the thermal paste very poorly... The differences between them just aren't that big if the thermal paste is atleast decent.
Exactly. As stated, thermal paste has a minimal effect, barely even noticed, as long as you APPLY it the right way.
Do you think that the $300-$400 build could support Windows 7 64 bit or would I need more ram? I'll be running MSVC and certain games (Minecraft, dwarf fortress).
Please respond. :smile.gif:
I think the 40$k build is meant for science and stuff.(or millionaires XD)

I guess you could run it, but 64bit is mainly for more than 4gb of ram.
A good miditower case would be the new Corsair 650D or the R3.

Just ordered some. Non - Metallic paste. Pretty cool.
The $700-800 build is not $758 it's $830
$800-900 = $905 not $878
$900-1000 = $1020 not $993
$1100 = $1330 not $1230
Insane build = $2055 not $2215 (maybe that one includes the price of an SSD?)
I was adding this up on my phone so it may be me that's wrong...

There not all Nvidia.
Sorry, didn't realize the cheaper builds had some ATi Radeons D:
Because the OP is a Nvidia fanboy.
