So i'm hoping to get a good gaming laptop soon(yes, it has to be a laptop) and i was wondering what would be better, the M11x or the M14x. The biggest set back for the M11x for me is the lack of disk drive. The set back for the M14x is the price, but i still might be able to afford it.. Which do you think would be better? If you know of a better laptop than either of these for the price don't be afraid to suggest.
Neither. Don't go with Alienware. Lately their products have been unreliable and cheaply built, ala the Dell tradition.
Might I suggest Origin or iBuyPower? Origin has quite literally the best laptops in the entire market in terms of specs, and iBuyPower has great specs for a fantastic price. For the same amount of money, you can get near double the specs of either of the aliens if you go with iBuyPower, and even with Origin, you're getting tons more for your money.
Said it before, and I'll say it again, anything but Alienware.
Step 1: Pretend Alienware doesn't exist.
Step 2: Go to newegg, browse Asus laptops.
Step 3: Be shocked at them costing 30% less and having a better video card.
Step 4: Purchase.
I have a alienware m11x and honestly best money ive spent on a computer. you get used to the screen fast and i run around 120 fps on mc with max settings
Neither alienware is extremely overpriced and crap. My firend has on he got <1 year ago and its ****. The fans burnt out and the cd drive broke, so now he has to run it on a cooling pad and any games more intense than minecraft cause the cpu to start throttling and makes gaming impossible. Save the money. If you want to game on a budget get a desktop, if you need a laptop get an asus or hp or something that you aren't paying double just for the brand.

And I run an average of 300fps on a laptop about $570 cheaper. Your point?
Like I said, you can find a lot better for a lot cheaper. And my screen is about 5 inches bigger. And I have nearly double the hard drive space.
Out of all the Alienware products, only the M11x is worth getting, everything else is over priced. HOWEVER, you have to wait for their sales with coupons, which occur pretty frequently. I heard you can get a solid setup for about $700-$800. I forget the actual price. I know plenty of people who are really happy with their M11x. Also heard that their customer service is pretty damn boss, which is what I think makes it worth it for the folks I know.
intel i7 920 @ 2.66 GHZ
ATi Radeon 5870
4 gigs o ram
asus (or msi?) motherboard.
all for the price of? (calculating) 800 or so bucks!
where as the m11x = $1,046 at near same specs

That is why I said you have to get those coupons and sales. If you don't do that, yes, it will be not a good buy.
Also, you just directly compared a laptop to a desktop. Being priced differently and people being unable to build their own laptops, you have to compare them different.
Keep in mind, they aren't just Alienware anymore, they're Dell, and Dell's had some rather recent headaches that should be more than enough reason to steer clear. I want my PC to last more than eight months, thanks.
And last I checked, that also goes for the customer service end of things. Want Alienware service? You'll still end up talking to Dell's reps, which may I remind you are justplainhorrible.
Look elsewhere, I urge you. It will save you many, many headaches in the long run.
I heard opposite on the customer support and that is recent stuff too but eh. There will always be opposite information.
Now... ihazsammich, do whatever you want. You can get an Alienware or get something else. Gaming laptop stuff are pretty damn fuzzy for me so I won't be able to tell you what else are good but, if you are going to get an Alienware, you must get the educational discounts. If you can't, then yeah, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

And comparing specs using Minecraft... eh?
See? I'm not so malicious...
