Well that would be dumb. If you're buying a Mac, it's already got the OS. What would be the point in buying the OS if you don't already have a computer to run it on?
Macs are expensive. We know. That horse has been beaten enough.
It's like buying a 300hp Audi, instead of a 300hp Chevy. You get what you pay for in quality. It's not all in the specs.
No, you don't. Apple's products are artificially overpriced, not just "high quality", like they would have you believe. That's just a crock of ********. They cost-cut just as badly, if not worse, than any other big corporation out there.
Macs being overpriced is a bad argument. Why do people buy designer clothes, expensive cars, fancy homes?
If you don't have the money for a Mac, don't buy one.
Also, if you owned a company and could convince someone to buy your product for 10x the price of other similar products, you probably would.
I prefer Macs because the design is clean, and there are no ugly stickers everywhere. OS X is also better than Windows in my opinion. And Macs have these little features that make life so much easier. Like mag-safe chargers, auto-adjusting monitor brightness and keyboard lighting, clutter-free keyboard and the ability to use multiple fingers on the trackpad, just to mention a few.
I love Audis; that's why I used them in the example They're fast, luxurious, great looking, and reliable. Chevy however, and most other GM brands, have always suffered from below-average build quality and reliability. They're just now starting to come out of that slump. And I've never been much of a fan of their designs.
No, you don't. Apple's products are artificially overpriced, not just "high quality", like they would have you believe. That's just a crock of ********. They cost-cut just as badly, if not worse, than any other big corporation out there.
They're not "having me believe" anything. I've owned over a dozen Macs in my life, and since I was a kid, taking them apart, tricking them out, and putting them back together has been a hobby of mine. I have tons of first-hand experience with them. They ARE built to a higher quality standard than your average PCs. I'm not saying all PCs are beneath Macs in terms of quality, there are PC "luxury brands" out there too. Most PCs I see and play with, however, just feel cheap.
I still don't get why people buy macs, is it ENTIRELY a waste of money unless you're either.
A: a hipster douche
B: like the look and have tons of cash to pay out to waste money on a shiny case with old overpriced hardware inside
C: Computer illiterate and cant properly function on a PC without getting a virus from chainmail (yes a mac is a pc with a different branding, SHOCKER)
There is literally no justification in buying a mac, you can do everything you do on a mac better on a PC if you're not computer illiterate. The only thing macs have better than windows based PCs is that mac osx is linux based and is less likely to have errors, even then you can still put macosx on a PC and be on with life. I know I'm just restating what people have said already but someone needs to drive the facts into these hipsters brains.

They're not really THAT expensive. I'm not very wealthy, and paid my macbook pro by working at a restaurant.
I bought it because I like graphic design, sound and film editing and web design. And no, PCs aren't even near as good at those things. Maybe some are, but working with a computer that looks like tupperware isn't very inspiring.
And yes, I probably couldn't function on a PC without getting a virus, but then again, I don't have to.

First, Mac isn't Linux based, its Unix base, get it right. Second, macs are excellent for video editing. FCP has become the new indie standard for video editing, making macs a must in the industry. Third, stereotyping makes you ignorant, not everyone on a mac is a "hipster douche" (See your parents are/were a little lenient on the language). Unless you are getting custom built, the cases generally look like a piece of someones broken car. Fourth, I am not hipster at all(even if I were, my parents would beat me to death), and I think macs are fine. I own both a mac and a PC, use one for gaming, one for video editing. It all comes down to opinion.
I know this sounds hypocritical considering I just did this, but can we please stop bumping this thread, it only leads to arguments and flaming.
For me, mac. I like how big the screens are, its faster, has better font, and is easier to do stuff on. Oh and no lag on games unless the client is overflowed.
Your gigantic screens are overpriced as hell. The 27" Cinema Display is $1000. The ASUS VE276Q 27" HDMI Monitor with Built in speakers is $300 on Newegg. Sure, Apple's has a higher resolution, but why would you need that high of a resolution on one screen unless you're doing graphic design? In which case, why limit yourself to one monitor?
It's not faster. For the price of a base model iMac, you can build a desktop that would blow away that iMac in anything. And guess what? You can run Mac OSX on it too. But that's just stupid since the OS is useless garbage. Linux and Windows demolish it.
Want the cheesy Mac font? Download it from the web and apply it as the primary font in Windows/Linux. Seriously people, this isn't rocket science. All it takes is a little bit of Googling.
Easier to do stuff on? Elaborate please.
No lag on games? Yeah, the 3 games available for it. That's because no one in their right mind would try gaming on a Mac. The hardware is dated, and it took them 2 years to upgrade from the Socket 775 architecture to the latest and greatest, Sandy Bridge. Also, any Valve game they sell for Mac runs x10 better on proper hardware in a proper environment.
You like Macs because they're dubbed as great computers by the general mis-informed public. When in reality, they're pieces of crap in pretty cases. Like Alienware.

Majority of those are Valve games, which are designed to run on low-end hardware without much difficulty. Last time I checked, games that require real horsepower like the original Crysis and Metro 2033 aren't available on Mac's because a Mac that can run them doesn't exist.
Other arguments?
"But Mac's don't get viruses!" Yes they do, every operating system does. But let's be honest, no one who has common sense gets viruses anymore. I've never had a virus. Ever. And I use Windows.
"They're are no ugly stickers everywhere" Are you really that dainty that you can't remove a few stickers? And those stickers you see on computers that say "Intel Inside" are letting you know what hardware you're running. Unlike a Mac, where they can shove a turd into a pretty case and call it the iShit and people will pay insane amounts for it because it has the Apple logo on it.
"The OS isn't as expensive as Windows" $30 is all it's worth. If that even. And when you're paying an arm and a leg for the ability to USE that OS it better be cheap.
Windows XP support just dropped last year. That's a 10 year run. I have never heard of Apple supporting one of their OSes for that amount of time. Ever. Ubuntu is better than OSX and guess what? It's FREE.
"Mac's have backlit keyboards" So do Windows PC's. You can easily get a backlit keyboard on a Windows PC, it's pretty much the norm now.
Someone said that if you owned a company and could get consumers to pay x10 the amount of what it would cost for a similar product, you would. No, I wouldn't. I've never been a money orientated person though. But if I had a product, I would want it to get in the hands of as many people as possible, while still making a profit. I don't have to charge insane amounts to do that.
Also, PC means PERSONAL COMPUTER. A Mac is a personal computer, but their "Hey, I'm a Mac" commercials have made people think otherwise because they're f@cking stupid.

1. The screen is NOT the same as the one you mention, read up some more on the tech specs, Apple sells some pretty ****ing amazing screens.
2. Faster? A PC with the same specs and a slightly better GFX card than a iMac is MORE money, not less.
3. Who wants the font? That's not a major appeal, anyone on any OS can choose most fonts.
4. Mac OS is way easier to use than Windows (although Linux is good also).
5. There are a LOT of games available for Mac OS, stop trolling. Oh, and we can run 99.99% of all PC games between Steam/WINE/Mono/VMware/Parallels/BootCamp.
6. The hardware is very similar to the hardware in current computers.
You like Macs because they're dubbed as great computers by the general mis-informed public. When in reality, they're pieces of crap in pretty cases. Like Alienware.

Nope, we don't get Viruses. There are 0 active viruses on MacOS, and the only bit of malware we have is MacDefender, which Apple already got rid of. Can you say the same about M$?

You want to know why threads like this never ends? It's because the Mac fanboys can never realize how flawed their reasonings are and how brainwashed they are about the stupid ads Apple put out. It's logic versus abstract thinking, it's a war that will never end until the abstract thinkers realize the error of their ways.
EDIT: You know what would be really hilarious? If Apple started putting AMD processors in their computers! :laugh.gif:

No, it's because people keep arguing on both the mac and pc side. Don't act like your side is innocent or something because people like you like to keep it going. Honestly, I said this a few pages back, but WHO CARES? So shut up.
Oh and you can stop with the stereotypes that people with macs are "abstarct thinkers" or "Hipster douchbags"
And it would be hilarious if they put in an AMD processor! Especially if they put in the new bulldozer that are supposed to be even better than the intel SB's! HAHAHAH!1! /sarcasm

You can thank the "abstract" thinkers for the world not being black and white. It's creative minds that invent games such as Minecraft. If everyone only followed logic, and never thought outside of the box, we'd still be cavemen.
I myself have only seen a handful of Apple ads, most of them after purchasing Apple products. I simple prefer a Mac, but I also see why someone would prefer a PC.
Why do you care if someone chooses to spend their money on a Mac anyway?
