Alright, so I took a bunch of video on a recent trip, and my camera puts it all into .MOV format. Well that just sucks because you can't put .MOV into windows movie maker.
So I need a converter that will change .MOV into something windwos movie maker can use, WITHOUT loss of quality. I tried winff, but it made the quality quite a bit worse...

Or maybe there's a free video editing software that's better than windows movie maker? I'm looking for free tools to fix my problem

Now, I always use MediaCoder (http://www.mediacoderhq.com/) for converting anything. It does audio, video, and I'm sure all kinds of other stuff. There's a video only version (I think), but you'll be best served by getting the regular full pack. It works great for converting stuff to iPod format and such.

I tried it, but once again, it reduced the quality of the video...

It shouldn't too drastically, as long as you set it to convert to highest quality video and audio quality. Otherwise, it may just be that it's lossy converting from those formats.

This may or may not work for you, but ZamZar (http://zamzar.com/) does free, online file conversion. Movie files might take a while to upload and convert, but it may be worth a try. If nothing else, hold on to the link. It's beautiful for document and music files :biggrin.gif:

if you;re not afraid of using the command line, try ffmpeg. it has all sorts of support, and can doconversions with minimal quality loss.

It been about 5 years I'm sure OP has figured it out by now lol.

After trying a few free video converter, I'm satisfied with handbrake and macx video converter most. both of them can convert many video formats. Regarding the output quality, the macx program seems to do a better job.
